Both bands are political based, and two of my favorites. SOAD got my vote, obviously, but who do you like better?

What's odd is I seem to remember Rage getting vast amounts of play on MTV, much more than SOAD, so which is the most listener friendly?

Odd... I never saw RATM in MTV... maybe one or two times but nothing more. SOAD was in the MTV at least one time every day.

That's because you probably watch MTv back in 1999-2000

Yep, because because Rage no longer existed for most of the past decade, whereas SOAD did.

Well, it definitly isn't songs packed with distorted guitars and screams.

Yeah because... Sonic Syndicate is really hard to digest and not radio friendly at all as well .

I don't know, it's not like they will be in the most popular radio but their music could easily be in a radio for teenagers.

Put it this way, I read an interview an exec from radio 1 (the biggest radio over here), when asked why no real rock was played, the guy answered that they do play some rock, gave the examples of several pop artists, then said hard rock is represented by bands like Green Day or Nickelback, to them SOAD must seem like the most extreme metal to us.

Shit

Ok, maybe I didn't think about how it is down there. I remember that when I lived in my home country [Chile]... even there I could listen to Metallica on the radio, it was a popular radio for the young people

Mmmm but nowadays you'll hear loads more SOAD here than RATM.
Back in the day you would hear loads of RATM, but that was because SOAD didn't even exist backl then.
But ask any kid on the street heer and they'll know SOAD because they have been played tp death on the radio. And yes, it is not heavy or hard music to get intop at all, ffs just listen to thye melodies ithin a second any moron and my little niece can hum them along.

What in the late 90s early 00s, SOAD had already released two albums, Rage were getting tons of play at that time. SOAD only really started to get lots of several months after the release of Toxicity through the succes of Chop Suey.

RATM are a lot more political based than SOAD, no...? RATM are a lot angrier in their deliverance too and are very blunt with their message...I just always found them more of a musically political force than SOAD...

Neither are SoaD and Rage Against The Machine. But at least those two are musically superior to anything Slipknot has even done and will ever do.

No word of a lie to me, a lot of Slipknot songs are just a chore for me to listen to and just sound like noise. Their recent stuff although not as ear-ache inducing, just sound like every other "alternative" metal bands. SOAD and RATM at least have creativity and experimentation in their music which keeps my interest.

But hey Slipknot have a lot of fans so I guess they're doing something right. What that right thing is however is beyond me though.

Also if you're an alt-metal fan you should at least respect RATM as they are considered pioneers of the (sub)genre.

I'm not exactly musicly educated, so I can't discuss if they have any musical values, or whatever. I just know if I like it or not. I like Slipknot, and not the two mentioned bands at all.
And BTW, no, I don't like Alt Metal. Only Slipknot, and that's because they are more on the extreme side of things.

Fair enough, but you can't deny that they are part of the alt-metal genre and RATM is very important to alt-metal. Not saying you have to like them though, but you shouldn't say they suck.

Voted soad, was my favorite band in 2001 or so when toxicity came out, i feel pretty ancient with all the teenagers in this thread

and yea rage has more raw energy, soad has a more melodic/smooth side... tbh i feel that soad musically isnt too shabby, they have their moments and are probably better than a good chunk of generic power/gothenburg death out there

SOAD because well they're one of my favorite bands, The Self-titled album and Toxicity are essentials for me, It's been 5 years since I discovered them and I'm still listening to them today. They're catchy, funny, and have a purpose. RATM is also a great band XD
