Wintersun - is it real? Well, no, it isn't. We hardly see the sun; for four whole weeks, it never shines.
Allow me to copy the style of DerRozzengarten (the greatest reviewer ever), who knows how to write proper metaphors. Such music is never meant to explain northern life for people who have never actually walked on a frozen river or cleared snow from their car before work (I'm not taking a jab at the French, Dutch, or Danish, who usually overreact when they see 1 cm of snow). Imagine the pre-internet days: it's blizzard beasts, mid-winter, the sun never shines, just 22 hours of darkness and twilight in between. There is nothing to do, only good music, books, or finding a way to channel your creativity. Outside activities, aside from collecting firewood and cleaning snow? I don't think so (but wait a minute, Jari lives in the city anyway?). Anyway, the streets are dead and frozen, the horizon is dark, and night light is ablaze on the snow. All you can do is wait for spring and then summer to arrive slowly. I've done it all my life, still do, and we all did. It's typical northern madness!
the first Wintersun album is so immensely average.
thx for enlightening us all ..and rating based on almost thousand people also proves that statement.
Appealing to popularity is NOT a good idea, however the 1st album is great fusing the best of metal with neo-classical work that creates not only a wonderful atmosphere, but brilliant works of art rather than just a few drudging riffs that could only intoxicate a caveman.
Well, that's ultimately just your opinion too, ain't it?
The only thing their debut creates for me is the "Good lord, how much cheese is too much?" kind of feeling.
Brilliant work of art... sure, if you like the intro music from Pokemon or Dragon Ball.

No, that is a fact, IT IS BASED on classical music, even if you don't like it.
Cheese is just a man's way of saying "OMG I'll be embarassed if another dude catches me doing this".

Since I'm not too big on neo-classical, or classical for that matter, I've no idea if it's based on it or not (but, if I was to guess, I'd say not). Anyway, that's not what I was referring to. I was referring to the "fusing best of metal" and "creating a wonderful atmosphere and a work of art" parts.
Haha, hardly. Cheese is my way of saying that this is a metal equivalent of crappy anime intro music.

No need to guess, I play a ton of classical myself and love the stuff, and I've had theory etc. It's based on classical. If Mozart, and Vivaldi sound like "Pokemon" (Which you say is cheese, but I am willing to bet you watch it), then you have some serious tone deaf issues. I think you hear what you wanna hear.
He likes Cradle of Filth, Burzum, Mayhem and a ton of other crap that's the metal version of a single celled organism. lol

Everyone either has way too high expectations for this album or way too low expectations. The fact is, until it is released there's no reason to argue about it.

Are you honestly comparing Wintersun to Mozart and Vivaldi? Wow, I may not know too much about classical, but I've heard a lot from both of them. Just enough to know that saying Wintersun is equal to them is kinda stupid.
But, then again, if you think that Mayhem's Ordo Ad Chao or Cradle's Cruelty and The Beast is the metal version of a single celled organism, I guess you and I will never be on the same page when music is concerned.
And just like a lot of other Wintersun fans, you are extremely defensive when criticism is directed their way. I already foresee this discussion turning into a bunch of personal insults that you'll without a doubt throw at me, since you don't know a different way of dealing with people having different opinions than you. I know this for a fact, I just have to look up some of your other posts in a couple of threads.
With that in mind, I'm done trying to have a discussion here. See ya in some other thread.
The very album title is a joke on you people who think about it too damn much. Until it's released, find more bands to enjoy.
Personally i know i'll love it, whether it lives up to the last album or not, I ALREADY love it 'cause it's baffled and offended so many people already... for no damn reason.
That aside I do believe it will be worth the trouble, not to mention one of the only metal albums to date to make a killing on Album sales.
LOL! If this album does not drop by June, Devin Townsend will officially have released 8 albums in the time it has taking to release "time". seriously, is this a joke.

I think it will just be Decent like the first album, the expectations are waaaay to high now so it is destined to be more over hyped than the first, (Which Jari Deserves some kind of medal for doing)

It needs to be great. The hype is ......... GIGANTIC!!!!
The new song sounds great, but my expectations for this album are low. I don't think it will ever have the same effect on me that the first album had. Hopefully it's still a good album though.

No, it's what we consider a distant release date. As we near November (or maybe October) and there's still no word on the release date, we'll push it back to early 2012.

90% of albums considered to be letdowns are so because people have huge expectations about them. Even if this album is a masterpiece, I'm sure lots of us will be disappointed, since it's presently the most anticipated metal album and has been so for 7 years. "The Way of the Fire" sounds awesome, though.
