Frankly, this album sucks. It really does. I had never listened to A7X before and going in to the review I had hoped it would at least be decent.

It's not.

I could list everything that I thought was wrong with this album, but apparently it'd be too long for most of your ADD-addled brains to handle. So here's the short version.

I don't. City of Evil and Self-Titled are a million times better albums than the first two.

I hear its suppose to be more progressive than anything they've done before. Personally they should go back to the sound of Waking The Fallen. the two new albums were great, but the singing wasnt that good like of waking the fallen and there was more balls to the guitar solos on that album

i don't think they can go back to old style because M's vocals chords got messed up and required surgery

Meh, I heard "Nightmare" off of YouTube and wasn't impressed, I'll reserve further judgement for when the album comes out. But their best imo was either Waking the Fallen or City of Evil...

Aside from a few filler tracks, I'm really enjoying this album. First couple songs (including the selftitled single) are very meh, but the album really shapes up part-way through. Not their best album, but the album as a whole feels well-planned and intelligent. Portnoy's drumming is great though. A ton better than crap they released on their prior effort.

7.27.10 huh! isnt that the same release date as the US Starcraft 2??? Personally not a big fan of Avenged, just checking in on what their up to since Mike Portnoy is helping em out. But all you fans, you can grab the new album AND play SC2 together )

Stay (sic)

This is Just a soft album, Theres nothing wrong with it really in my opinion, And it has a Hardside to it such as Natural Born Killer or God Hates Us. So its not bad, Just not as Hard.

It's certainly one of the band's better albums in my opinion, but I still think 66 minutes is way too long for what it is. The title track itself, while very well written, could do with being cut down by a minute or so, and the same goes for both 'Welcome to the family' and closer 'Save me'. That said, the majority of "Nightmare" is pretty good. Although Shadows sometimes sounds a little weak when trying to eschew his pure, clean vocals in favour of a harsher, raspier style, he can really hit notes sometimes, as on what I think is the highlight of the album 'Victim'. The musicianship is decent too, although sometimes proves a little tedious (the middle of the album suffers the most in this case), and is certainly the focal point of songs such as 'Danger line' and the dark, aggressive 'God hates us'. I can't see why people hate this band so much nowadays, they aren't even that terrible as people say.

Dissapointing.
I think the Rev might have been the band's main creative force, because the creativity seems drained on this one.
Only songs really worth it are the title track and Fiction. (Fiction, just to listen to that more unique side of A7X that only came with the Rev)
