This is a thread about bands like: Manilla Road, Agent Steel, Jag Panzer, Cirith Ungol, Circle II Circle, Whilplash, Forbidden, Attacker, Deadly Blessing, Catch 22, Imagika, Hammers of Misfortune, Liege Lord, Apollo Ra, Pharoh, Q5, Crimson Glory, etc.
I've got the Beyond Fear album and I can say it's one hell of an album, if you into old school heavy metal, but with an up to date sound you've got to deffenetly get it.
What do you thing of Midnight's return to Crimson Glory? Any expectations?
Any news from the Agent Steel camp?

Originally Esoteric should have played from 1800 - 1840

Come to think it, I might be posting a recommendation here as well. Malteze is some great hook-driven US power metal. Their only album Count Your Blessings is pretty rare and pricy, so anybody interested in them should download a few songs first (I'm sure the band wouldn't mind). I only have the vinyl or I'd provide samples. Shok Paris is not quite as obscure and were actually signed by Metal Blade. They had a tour with Lizzy Borden (and maybe Armored Saint, not quite sure anymore) in the 80s. Steel and Starlight and Go For The Throat are the best albums to start with. Samples are widely available. Both bands can be compared to non-thrashy US power metal like Vicious Rumors and Warrior.

18.11.2009 - 19:41 Written by Hellish Star on 18.11.2009 at 15:32 Just wanted to create a reaction, and it worked. Of course US metal doesn't suck in its entirety, but for some reason, most american bands don't make anything that seem interesting to me. Maybe that's because I'm not into thrash, metalcore, grindcore and brutal death, which are the most common genres in the US, as far as I know. Agalloch is OK, though. Not awesome or genial, but good. And Iced Earth can make listenable tracks (for Power Metal, I mean). It's not a matter of ignorance, it's just a matter of taste. Mention american bands that sound like finnish stuff, for instance, and I will give them a try, promise ^^

18.11.2009 - 23:16 Written by MétalNoir on 18.11.2009 at 19:41 US Metal stands tall since the early eighties in different genres -Progressive (Queensryche, Dream Theater, Lethal, Fates Warning; Heir Apparent, Outworld,...) -US Power (Helstar, Metal Church, Liege Lord, Jag Panzer, Steel Prophet, New Eden,Iced Earth - old albums ....) -US Thrash (melodic: Agent Steel, Forbidden Heathen, Megadeth,... or harsh; SLayer, Dark ANgel, Exodus,...). The Bay Area Thrash Metal is awesome and what to tell about bands like Pantera, Metallica,... -US Heavy Metal (Savatage, Manowar, Virgin Steele, Armored Saint, Riot,....) -AOR / FM (Survivor, Foreigner, Heart,...) -Hard Rock (Whitesnake, White Lion, Twisted Sister, Dokken,...) -Glamm (Ratt, Motley Crue, Poison,...) -Death Metal (Death, Morbid Angel, Deicide,...) -Guitar Masters (Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai; Joe Satriani, Marty Friedman,...) -Doom Metal (Solitude Aeturnus, Trouble, Pentagram,...) And in the Euro-oriented style of Power Metal, like you like -Forgotten Realm -Cellador -Forgotten Tales (Canada) I'm not particular in this genrs, I prefer the darker US-style power metal....

I don't like flower power either, Symphony X (I'm a big fan of their last album) and Iced Earth being the only male-fronted Power bands I can stand. But your post confirms what I thought, since these genres don't appeal to me. I'm much more a Black Metal guy, and I also like Folk, Extreme Power, all kinds of Symphonic Extreme Metal, Avantgarde, etc. Unfortunately, US metal is, in general, either very cerebral or brutal and stupid. Since I'm "Canadian" (I don't think of myself as a Canadian, since I'm a French Quebecer but anyway), it would be much easier to attend good shows if I was into US metal... How very unfortunate...
