I was suprised this band didn't have a thread already sincePrimus is one of the best most influential altmetal bands of the 90's with they're crazy brand of metal. My favorite Primus album is Sailing the Seas of Cheese because of songs like Jerry Was A Race Car Driver, Tommy the Cat, and Sgt. Baker. Les Claypool is also an amazingly talented bass player and songwriter and has a pretty crazy vocal styling. So what does everyone else think of this band?

I have every Primus album and have seen them live seven times...they're amazing live...Primus is certainly a unique band and Les Claypool is a monster on the bass! It took me ages to play shit like Tommy the Cat and Jerry Was A Race Car Driver on bass...very fast hands...my fav album is Sailing The Seas Of Cheese...every time I've seen them live they've played an album the entire way through....great band!

Amazing band, what a fucking musician! Everything they have done is worth listening too! Although listening to "Fizzle Fry" on acid was very strange!

I love how LaLande used to be part of Possessed, the godfathers of Death Metal, and is now in Primus. I don't know why.

I just bought Hallucino-genetics a few days ago, because Fizzle Fry is my favorite Primus record.
Claypool is a juggernaut in the bass, not because he's technical, is because he plays and make music like nobody else dares.

True, and Blind Illusion's album is quite fun with a couple of standout tracks and a couple of crappy tracks.
Les was almost considered for the bass spot in Metallica when Cliff died but Metallica decided not to use him because Claypool was TOO good for that spot and his bassplaying wouldn't really fit in Metallica

Agree, maybe they would have developed a more technical side and we would never have to endurance an album such as St. Anger

I got Hallucino-genetics about three months ago, and man, is that an awesome live dvd. three hours of pure musical bliss, and thank god NO extras to spoil it, just pure music with Frizzle Fyr beiing played entirely (which is btw my fav Primus album by far)

That tour was amazing. I went and saw it in Montreal and they did Frizzle Fry the whole way through which was kick ass. The first time I saw them, they did Sailing The Seas Of Cheese the whole way through. I can't wait to hear what album they'll do the whole way through the next time I see them...

Lat time I saw them live was way way way back on their Sailing The Seas of Cheese tour. So, naturally, at the time they didn't play an enitre album. But they did play quite a few covers in the unmistakeable Primus style. And every single concert was different. Saw them three nights running and three nights you got entirely different livesets. What a breath of fresh air that was when 99.9% of the bands play the same setlist every single fucking night.

Sailing the Seas of Cheese is a solid album. But Suck on This is probably my favorite. Although most of the songs are on Frizzle Fry, there is one song (I think it is Tommy the Cat, although it might be Jellikit) that is not on Frizzle Fry that contains the best bass solo I've heard from Claypool. Frizzle Fry is also a pretty good song.

They're planning on going into the studio and getting the album out by late this year or early 2008. Either way, I just hope they come close enough to my home town instead of Claypool's solo outfit.

I have to agree with Marcel, Fizzle Fry is their best album by far. To Defy the Laws of Tradition is probably their best song, I've never heard anything like it and it still blows me away. A perfect example of a song that breathes. I find myself skipping songs on Sailing the Sea of Cheese, but it's still a classic in it's own sense, just not the monster Fizzle Fry is.

Primus should consider releasing another cover album soon, they seem to be faultless in that department where most bands fall flat on their face or just waste our time.

EDIT: @Xenaoth: Yes, Claypool has stopped using the "Primus Sucks" slogan. Maybe he's sensitive or just taking his music more seriously than before.
