Hour of Penance is an Italian death metal band which just came out with their new album, Paradogma. While it might not surpass the awesomness of their previous release, The Vile Conception, Paradogma still is a consistent, brutal effort similar to what Behemoth has released nowadays.

Hour of penance has been one of my favourite bands for a long time now. paradogma, while being a very solid release, doesnt outdo the vile conception. TVC has a lot more memorable riffs and moments, and paradomga could do with a bit more variation IMO. but, still one of the better death metal records of the year for sure.
and if you really enjoy their latest two releases you should also check out their first two efforts, disturbance and pageantry of the martyrs. not as polished as they are now, but have a real primitive sound and some really cool songs

Their drumming is fucking ridiculous, and everything I've heard is great. Their vocalist is extremely fast, but still articulate as well. My only complaint is the lack of soloing, but still they're a very impressive band.

Brilliant, brilliant band. When I first heard the samples from the second album I thought maybe they had turned a bit too much Behemoth-like... but looking back at the first album again, I can see it there too.

Both albums are great anyhow.

they've actually released four albums so you should check the other two out as well
theres some nice songs on those albums too, but the vile conception still tops the list of course

Nice album art. I haven't heard these guys before, but I like Behemoth so maybe I'll give these guys a listen.

I personally prefer their newest probably because it sounds like Evangelion in some areas.

Paradogma is an okay album that I'll be spinning on occasion but it isn't a breakthrough of any sort. I find that the E minor scale gets old really fast unless you can find enough variations on it and clearly Behemoth or Nile are better at mastering it. Still, it's an enjoyable album every now and then.

Paradogma is a top 2010 album for me. It's amazing throughout and has one of the best closing tracks I've heard in a long time.

I listened to Paradogma not too long ago. Maybe I need to listen to it again because I wasn't blown away. I mean it was a good album and they're great musicians no doubt!!!!! but it was nothing special really.

Fleshgod Apocalypse (a band closely related to Hour of Penance...former members) on the other hand...wow!

I was honestly surprised the first time I listened to Paradogma. It's a great follow-up to an even better debut. I figured they'd release something generic or something decent, but Paradogma has a lot to offer.

paradogma is actually their fourth album, TVC their third. they have released two other albums before these haha (Y) a lot of hour of penance fans seem to be unaware of their first two albums

Gah that's my bad! haha I even have both albums on my PC!

I guess it's so rare I give them a listen I just tend to write them off. Pageantry for Martyrs was pretty average stuff, Disturbance was just plain awful.

I am yet to hear the first two albums but Paradogma was my pick for Death Metal album of 2011. I must say though i actually preferred The Vile Conception, that album blows me away every time i listen to it.

I would love to catch them live sometime & see how well their music translates from the album onto the stage. I imagine it would be pretty brutal

Paradogma was the first album from Hour of Penance that I listened to. Since then I've been a huge fan.
