Bitter Dawn
Ave Sathanas!
This band has been kickin' around for a little while now, not certainly how long exactly but I've been waiting for their debut for maybe a year now and, alas it's out.
Can't say I really feel like typing out an elaborate or catchy intro so, I'll just make a few points and let your curiosities do the rest. The recorded track "Fossegrim" features backing vocals by Nattefrost and, on the bands myspace page they've a live track up entitled "Ulvetid" with Hoest on vocals. Weird thing about these guys is they more or less sound (and look) like your average catchy, punkish, rock & roll band but, they're tied in with some prominent black metal bands/figures.

No prob' man, I wasn't entirely certain whether or not it should be posted in the Extreme Metal Forum but, since it has Hoest and Nattefrost as guest I think it just fits in.

Still feel sort of weird about these guys since they're from Norway and are (somewhat) affiliated with BM yet, they're doing the whole American tattoo flash art thing, some of the music very vaguely reminds me of QOtSA - it is catchy though.
Humerous interview with Kvelertak and Nattefrost http://afistinthefaceofgod.blogspot.com/2009/08/interview-with-nattefrost-kvelertak.html

Quote:
So you didn't have to tone it down to work with these guys?

N: No, no, no. I remember I was holding some notes and I fucking passed out in the studio, ha ha.

Oh yeah, you guys told me about this yesterday. Wanna run through it again?

M: He came to the studio and we gave him a bottle of whiskey, 15 minutes later he'd drunk the whole thing and passed out during a recording session. So one of the screams you're hearing in the songs is actually him falling over and passing out, ha ha ha.

So that's all on record, yeah?

M: Yep, that's on the track "Fossegrim".

I love their album. It's so ridiculous, I went into it thinking how the hell will all this work together, and came out just stunned. It was like being punched in the face haha.

Kvelertak are smart guys... I'm so pleased Mjod made it onto the full-length, it was my favourite track from their demo. Also that they got picked up by a good label, they deserved it.

Further to the interview above, we did this back in '08:
http://www.archaic-magazine.com/article.php?aid=45078

It explains a little bit of their attitude to extreme metal and how they feel they fit in with it themselves. It's probably full of bad language and sexual references, if I have to flag that up...

Yeah, it's old stuff served in a new, fresh way. Really cool album, sounds best while I'm driving.
Byfrost, while quite different, do the same - refresh old stuff. And they're also very good.

Yeah I liked this album. Novelty wears off after a few listens, but its still good stuff. Gotta love Baizley's art!

This is certainly a different take on black metal. Its a very creative blend of black metal and punk/rock and roll influences. To my ears they've created something genuinely new and refreshing. Out of scores of bands that release the same type of albums over and over this band is refreshing .

Saw Kvelertak yesterday "by accident" and by that meaning I didn't know any of their stuff, neihter bothered to look it up, but still went to their show, cause I was intrigued. Gotta say it was for the better, because I was pretty impressed what I saw & heard. Totally love the vintage punk rock vibe that flows into the surface at moments, so I'm definitely adding this band to my collection. Especially the EP Kvelertak, good stuff: intriguing, catchy, amusing, interesting.

I really hate myself for not seeing them when they came to Toronto. I've had their two full-lengths on repeat for the past few months - can't get enough of them.

Can they really be considered extreme metal? There most recent album sounds like it's just hard rock with screamed vocals.

They went a bit softer and emphasized melody but I think their upbeat punk-infused style of metal still warrants them being in the extreme section of the forums.

Kvelertak are probably one of the most innovative bands of our decade. Black n' Roll should reach a wider audience.

I wouldn't go far at calling them really innovative. Perhaps just a bit...it's not like they're the first band that's mixing Punk, Black Metal and Post-Hardcore. They have their own signature sound and that is an acomplishment by itself, lots of awesome Speed/Black/Punk bands are perfecting the Venom formula and twisting it their own way but it still sounds like Venom at it's core. Kvelertak is just different, they can really make the Punk Riffs stand out and that gives the perfect Melodic hook. I oftenly find myself singing the riffs since I obviously don't understand the lyrics, that's really catchy.

I've discovered nearly a month ago and I remember I was so hooked on both their Full-Lenghts that I ordered them exactly the same night. Great band.
