I would like to open this topic to the noise/ambient genre, feel free to recommend bands. To begin with, I'll list a small summary of some of the genres which I think come under this category.

Death Industrial
Noise (I would argue traditional noise is quite alien from the more black noise works of Abruptum for example)
Black Noise
Power Electronics
Dark ambient
Ritual Ambient
Feel free to add more if you wish. Here are some bands I can recommend.

Black Seas of Infinity: Death Industrial/ritual noise project from the US.

Kaniba: A favorite of mine, minimalist ritual ambient formerly known as Terrorgoat of Finland

Raison d'etre: Dark ambient, all ive heard of them is the outro they did for Abyssic Hate's fulllength but I should have something of theirs in the near future.

Ugegi Aoiveae a Ser: Minimalist, kind of 'magical' dark ambient, Ive only heard one song, and that was from the split with Black Seas of Infinity/Kaniba, but it showed excellent promise.

Emit: Quite closely related to the blackmetal scene in comparison with the others, electronic black noise, quite frightening while still retaining some similarities to other, more blackmetal based projects.

At this stage the only distro I can recommend for purchasing some of the more obscure material on the list is Autumn Wind Productions, but I would like to hear some more sites which specialise in this field.

@tommy tee could you comment on Terrorgoat? I've been looking to get some of their tapes for a while.

if you've heard kaniba, you've heard terrorgoat. same band.

pretty shitty to be honest. if you want to make an ambient or an electronics project and do a shitty job of it because you're incompotent, just try and sell it to the black metal scene.

I remember for the moment some Atmospheric Metal bands:

Hagalaz Runedance: A folk metal band from Norway, I have only one song, great atmosphere, like if there was a ritual in the music.

Okay, I don't want to sound too cocky, but since WHEN are they from Austria? They are as Norwegian as they come.

Yeah, you're right, I already changed it

But Kaniba is the reformation of Terrorgoat, and they're pretty different (judging from descriptions of Terrorgoat anyway). Kaniba is far more meditative, the sort of thing I don't expect would find an audience within the black metal scene. Anyway, I guess then you wouldn't mind trading that Terrorgoat tape with me, eh, eh?

Autumn Wind Productions (US)

Todestrieb Records (UK)

Cthulic Dawn Productions (fin)

Most black metal distros also have some noise/ambient available, FMP for instance. BTW anyone listen to any martial ambient, Death in June for example?

Zombie, M.D.
I enjoy Death in June, but I wouldnt really call them ambient. Most of what I heard is neofolk, though some of the stuff incorperates noise and ambience.

i have a terrorgoat tape and a kaniba cd. there isn't a great deal of difference. the kaniba demo seems a bit more engaging but on the whole its nothing wildly different and nothing that great. of course, the other releases by this band may be different so i can't comment on them.

and im already giving you an absurd tape for free. don't be greedy

Another recommendation. I got the 20.SV 'Acid Vomit. Human Genocide' CD the other day. At first I was expecting more straight harsh noise kind of stuff but its more industrialized dark ambient. Maybe you could label it as death industrial but I'm not enough of an expert on it.
Anyway, its a great release based around the consequences of uranium mining and a nuclear generation, the final apocalypse when all humans eventually die out and the world lays waste to terrifying machinery. Good stuff.

Sounds interesting, describe.

I have another post Terrorgoat project to recommend, Saaamaaa, I have "Massa di Requiem per Shuggay" (available from AWP). Very interesting and experimental in nature, juxtapositioning the lively/wholsome sounds of a church choir and bells with dark electronics to create an effect far more frightening than any other post Terrorgoat I've heard (perhaps even Terrorgoat itself from what I've heard of them). Definetly recommended, although with such minimalist soundscapes it requires a fair amount of patience. Then again most 'music' of this sort does....

A great dark ambient band is Evol. they come from Italy, atmospheric/medieval with black metal influences, a big part of their stuff is extreme, but the instrumetal songs are really beautiful, I really recommend you this band.
The best songs from the album Dreamquest: "Celephais", "Sarkomand", "Sona-Nyl" and "Ulthar"

These days I've been listening to a lot of:
MZ.412's Nordik Battle Signs - Noisy-dark ambient, with some very interesting vocal-samples.
Temnojar's The Echo Of Hyperborea - Rather soothing ambient music, not ritualitic, not dark in any way, just soothing.
Raison d'être's In Sadness, Silence & Solitude - I think it's their best release. Some excellent landscapes created here..
Shinjuku Thief's Medea - Ritualistic dark ambient from Australia (i think). Good stuff nonetheless. Very enjoyable.

I really like the works of Wolf Eyes, especially their last album 'Human Animal', and the works of James Plotkin - of course he was in Khanate, which isn't directly noise, but he did some great noisy/ambient-like things with Mark Spybey ('A Peripheral Blur') and K.K. Null ('Aurora'). His new project Khlyst is also really awesome.
@Damnated: sounds interesting, I'm gonna check that out.

try THY VEILS from ROMANIA [ the guy behind the project was in Negura Bunget ] - EXCELLENT stuff
and AGHAST from Norway [ it turned into Hagalaz' Runendance thn to Nebelhexe]
PROFANE GRACE from the U.S.
not to mention Paysage d'Hiver from Switzerland [black metal/ambient]
NORTHAUNT from Norway - sweet 'nature' ambient material
for more Acoustic/Ambient, PROCER VENEFICUS fromt the U.S. again, with a shitload of CD/-R released

and for the folk-ambient oriented stuff, I only know some of the Polish projects/bands such as
PERUNWIT, PIORUN and WOJNAR [this one kicks ass]

I saw someone recommend Temnojar from Russia, I'd also add SIEG [these bands even releasesd a split-tape]
