MetalStorm.net - Blocked In Iran
So... apparently MetalStorm.net has been blocked by Iranian authorities. As of Sunday, MS has been "filtered" and is no longer accessible in Iran. Yup, Metal Storm is officially too metal for Iran. Several of our Iranian users have reported though that, next to bypass software, the site is still available through https://www.metalstorm.net.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has been filtering social network sites, like MySpace, Facebook, Last.fm, Twitter, Urkat for years now. But since last month authorities have started filtering blogs and websites related to Metal music. The infamous Metal Archives were the first to go down. But also most of the Persian language metal forums and blogs got filtered. Even the official Metallica website had to bite the dust.

When The Guardian reported about the intensified censorship following the commotion after the 2009 elections, the newspaper wrote that "internet censorship is both routine and highly developed in the Islamic Republic." Iran uses what the OpenNet Initiative calls "one of the most extensive technical filtering systems in the world", as all internet providers are required to go through state-controlled gateways.
According to Wikipedia - who have a surprisingly thorough article about internet censorship in Iran - every ISP must be approved by both the Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI) and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and must implement content-control software for websites and e-mail. ISP's face heavy penalties if they do not comply with the government filter lists.
In 2008, Iran has blocked access to more than five million Internet sites, whose content is mostly perceived as immoral and anti-social. In recent years, Internet service providers have been told to block access to political, human rights and women's sites and weblogs expressing dissent or deemed to be pornographic and anti-Islamic. The ban has also targeted such popular social networking sites as Facebook and YouTube, as well as news sites.

They fear the people, they fear informed and organized people, they think that blocking the Internet will stop people from thinking, joining, organizing and reveal against them, but history will prove them wrong for sure!  Metal is one of the most "feared" music styles of all times, people fears what they can't understand, and most of the people outside our little world can't understand that our music is just another form to express our feelings to this wicked world.  I despise the "big" religions, but it's ok for people to have one, no problem with that, but it's not right to prosecute people just because of their different beliefs.  Hang on Iranian metal stormers, and always stand for what you believe!

Tank you all for your sympathy! Thanks Behdad for supporting Iranian Metalheads! I Fuckn' hate this country! I used to be a muslim! I went to mecca to seek Allah! But all that I saw was injustice! After MetalStorm.net blocked in Iran, a lot of attention was attended and a lot of Iranian metalheads who didn't know about this site, now are using it like the 2 guys (Cyanide / REVENGER) from Iran who posted before this. I introduced them. MetalStorm.net is becoming a popular site in Iran and Iranians are accessing it easily and without blockade through HTTPS ! So none of the goals of blocking this site is achieved! Haha! 2. About opposition of Metal and Islam: In Quran, having a music career, earning money from music and related jobs like making musical instruments is prohibited (Called "Haram") and is considered as a sin. So, Islam is not agreed with music. Metal is a kind of music, so Islam is against metal! But there's another reason: Metal supports "Free thinking" , "Paganism" , "Anti-Religious" and "Protesting against governments and dictators" are usual lyrical themes in metal. So, Islam and Islamic Republic of Iran's government are afraid of metal. And they try to limit metal. Blocking sites about metal is one of the ways. A year ago, they made a TV program against metal and rap and tried to call all of them as "satanist" ! Name of the TV show was "Shock" ! Every metalhead in Iran will remember that fuckin' program.

3. The first Persian (Farsi) Metal forum, http://Bia2Metal.com/ (http://forums.bia2metal.com/index.php) is shutting down. After blocking the forum, the admin (Ali) told me that he is going to shut the site down himself. He told me that the government can easily find his address from his ISP logs and find him. You can imagine the next events: Jail! But we are discussing to find a way. Let's have hope. We really worked hard for that forum. The other Persian metal forum, http://metal-station.com was blocked months ago, but they're working in http://metal-station1.co.cc/forum/index.php

As simple as adding a rule like this to the firewall: Action = Deny Traffic = HTTPS Source Interface = ANY Source IP = ANY Destination IP = *MS server* (Or in the most naiive case, entirely bloking port #443 )So for god's sake, calm down and do not grab that much attention for a while. ....And remove those links of your websites, you just rank 'em higher on the black list by linking to them in other blocked pages, if they already are not indentified...
