Two similar yet very different genres, dbm and fdm are both extreme doom genres. Much like death and black metal, these two share traits, yet have established themselves as individual genres, both with a dedicated following. So, very simply, which do you prefer for your fix of ambiebr misery: Depressive Black Metal, or Funeral Doom Metal?

I go (not vote) to FD but I like both, epends of situations, bands etc but there no much diference, both are depresive , suiciadel(Forgotten Tomb) whatever its aaaa I cut my weins aaaaa I die aaaaaa blod flows out aaaaaaa
I cant wote becauyse I like both but % more I listen FD

I'd probably go for the black metal, kinda seems that there's more inside compared to the funeral doom. But I can't really vote for any.

FD well even its extreme but there be doom elements, BM well many cases thaty pure sound and depresive lyrics can work specely for non metalheads LOL

I am for dsbm...i have couple of favorite funeral doom bands, but bands like Nocturnal Depression are even better...

I listen to more FD bands. DB is great too, and i love the atmosphere of db more, but for musicality i'd say (as a generality) FD

I've tried listening to Ahab, but it was very slow by my standards, whereas I like bands like Austere and Woods Of Desolation.

I prefer Austeer.

Actually I dont think Funeral Doom and suicidal black metal is ably compared. One is very beautiful, while one is very insane emotion. Funeral Doom is more decent than Depressive suicidal black metal.

I personally like Funeral Doom more, Evoken's new album was MASSIVE.

It's like choosing between beer and food, impossible.

That problem could easily be solved by pouring your beer into your food.

Anyway I prefer FD mainly because there are just more bands in it I like.

I like both...but nothing beats atmospheric black metal

Atmospherically one is oppressive and the other is bleak and desolate, personally I like the atmosphere of DSBM a tad bit more and musically I prefer it as well, there's nothing wrong with Funeral Doom but I find myself being more engrossed by DSBM

FD easily for me. DSBM bores me most of the time

Ok sorry, I'll explain.

I prefer DSBM because i listened to it alot during my high school years and it brings back a lot of memories, Funeral Doom is great too but sometimes too slow and too depressing. For example, The album Angels Of Distress by Shape Of Despair, It's a great album and i love it but it would make me feeling very depressed or even suicidal, if i listened too much to Funeral Doom.

Thats very odd when listening to funeral doom and you feel very depressed and go to suicide. Yet the lyrics is far from self-harm.

Dsbm

Funeral Doom only covers the fatigue/apathy/lethargic part of depression. DSBM covers fatigue, panic, anxiety, racing thoughts, extreme hate, distress and crys for help all in one.

...na there's just a little more diversity and i'v always liked bm over doom.

Funeral Doom has Esoteric so that makes an instant win for me.

Esoteric is a funeral doom band formed in England, they released one demo and 6 full-lengths. They're one of the best bands ever because of their unique style. As much as I like DSBM, there is not a single band in the genre that turns me on as much as Esoteric.
