You missed my point. I'm saying for every person who tanks this with a 1, there's a person who's giving it a 10. The extreme votes usually balance each other out so the votes from 2 to 9 carry more weight; thus, the idiocy is balanced.

fun aside, I must ask you one thing! who the fuck are you to judge someones opinion? are you gods? superheroes? what? well, to me you're idiots! I (and neither many of people who voted 10 for this album) am not stupid, not retarded, whatever and I perfectly know when some band is making music that is appealing to me, and this album certainly is like that! Yes, I like this band, but it's with a reason, cuz this is really good music done with heart and dedication! For example, once I loved Cradle of Filth, but when they started to make boring, uninspired music, I quit on them, you know, it's that easy...this no1. is not a fanboysm (whatever), this is the proof that it was and still is special for the majority of people here, and that's a sign of quality! you can complain as much as you like (cuz your favorite hasn't won here), but you can't deny that this album was appealing to masses more than any other this year! and one thing more, you must know, the more you talk about this (good or bad) the more attractive it will be, and with next release Septicflesh will win here even easier, even now it has more voices (good or bad) than any other band in top 20 and that's a sign of popularity

imo absolutely deserved 10 for this album, since I enjoy every song on this record and am listening this ordinary since it was released!!!

If that comment somewhat bothered you, then I give my excuses.
I'll try to explain myself better, despite my limited english: I like "The Great Mass" to some extent; I gave it a 7, actually a rounded down 7,5 just because "Communion" is imo more solid. The fact is that I find most of the metal stuff of TGM very underwhelming and uninspired (where are the riffs? PARR PARR PARR CHUG CHUG CHUG... It's everything like this!) and ultimately I came to the conclusion (questionable, but justified) that a lot of people "blindly" adore this album because of the featured orchestrations; which are indeed cool, but it seems like they have the main purpose to cover a bland songwriting -and it's probably the commonest flaw of symphonic metal bands out there: think of Dimmu Borgir or Nightwish. Strip down the orchestral parts and you'll have a terrible, half-assed metal album with almost zero substance ("Rising" or "Therianthropy" are clear examples).
So, in the end, I don't think it's a bad album at all, it has some great tracks like "Pyramid God" or "A Great Mass Of Death", but because of the aforementioned reasons I really cannot see it as a perfect groundbreaking metal opus; and the more it is acclaimed as such, the more I """hate""" its flaws, which seem totally nonexistent to many...

highlights are oceans of grey , the undead keep dreaming , the great mass of death,five pointed star

With the kinds of weapons at these guys' disposal,I surely expected a lot more from them after listening to the first single.In the end, this seems to have quite a number of flaws.All the songs in the second half have no character and are a waste of excessive symphonic dilution.They could've easily done a more cohesive and consistent record than this one.The songwriting needs more variety and inspiration.Avg song length 4-5 for a band this potent ?? Sad really. And no, please this isn't under the DM umbrella for sure.
