I was listening to LTE, which prompted me to create this topic. I wanted to see what peoples favourite side projects were, learn about musicians involvements in other bands, and see whether or not side projects can be better than the original. Starting off, some of my favourite side projects are:
-Wardruna: Featuring Kvitrafn and Gaahl from Gorgoroth, this is an ambient norwegian folk record. Absolutely amazing musicianship, and in my opinion is much, much better than gorgoroth ever were, despite the complete lack of metal in the music.
-Bloodbath: More of a supergroup than a side project, featuring: Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity), Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström (Katatonia) etc. Not better than their original groups, as especially Opeth and Edge of Sanity, which are significantly moe creative and unique than this straight out death metal band. But its still a great band nonetheless.
-Gordian Knot: A Prog fanatic's wet dream. Has had over the years members form Cynic, King Crimson, Genesis, and Dream Theater. Simply Amazing.

My favorite side project/supergroup is Transatlantic, feat: Neal Morse (former Spock's Beard), Mike Portnoy (former Dream Theater), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Roine Stolt (Flower Kings).
During Live shows there is a fifth member Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation).
I've seen them twice live, really awesome. They play 6 or 7 songs in 3 hours.

I'll go with Pig Destroyer/Agoraphobic Nosebleed. Not sure if that counts though because both bands are similar, just like Marduk/Funeral Mist.
For a side project that sounds different, years ago I would have said Gorgoroth/Sahg, but the last two Sahg albums haven't appealed to me at all.
Oh! Also Exhumed/Dekapitator. The Storm Before the Calm and just about everything Exhumed has made is great.

Put Marc Grewe from Morgoth, Silenoz from Dimmu, Jardar from Old Man's Child, Shane Embury from Napalm Death and Tony Laureano from Almost Every Band You Know together in a mineshaft in Chili for months and they come up with a mindblowing death metal album. That's what I think anyway.
Shadowcast from Insidious Disease is the debut from this "international supergroup" and I like it.
The vocals are the best in death metal I've heard in a long time. I knew Grewe from his time in Morgoth but I didn't know he was still in business. It's to early to call them my favorite side-project but they sure made a good start.

Depends on your definition of side project, I don't have all too many on my playlist.
If you'd consider Solution .45 as a side project, than this. If not, that would be Almah. Brazilian progressive power metal, worth checking out.

why the hell would you want someone from the horribly generic and overrated Gorgoroth in it?

I don't think King did a bad job on Between Two Worlds and the album sounds fine too so I don't see a "Gorgoroth" problem.

Okay I can see your point. Somehow I thought you were referring to Gaahl.
