Are there any other black metal bands that employ clean vocals?

Recently, I've been getting into Primordial and Enslaved. Both are black metal bands, but both have something in common. They both employ clean vocals at various moments in songs (Actually, this applies to Enslaved to a greater extent; Primordial almost entirely abandoned black metal singing in Empire Falls.) I really love how a band like Enslaved balances out the darkness of black metal vocals with melodic, clean vocals. This balance not only adds variation to their music, but it also break past the traditional black metal sound. So, my question to everyone is this: Are there any other bands out there that utilize both black metal singing and clean singing?

Thanks, I would appreciate suggestions.

Clean vocals at various moments: Try Vintersorg (more folk metal), Borknagar, Sorg Svart, Ghost Brigade, Lunatic Gods.

How about Windir? Cosmocrator provides clean vocals on a lot of tracks on the 1184 and Likferd albums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M0a5UqY7WY

I would say Dråpsnatt. Swedish band, with harsh BM-vocal and clean folk-vocal. It's not exactly draped in clean vocals, but they make for a good break sometimes. And not to mention; the music itselves is absolutely great.

Fans of Agalloch should definitely check out Alda's :tahoma:. It's a great atmospheric folkcoustic black metal album with a raw production and a mix of clean and harsh vocals.

The point is that it's black metal... that has clean vocals too. HOLY SHIT.
Nah, but seriously... that's the best explanation I can give, you can google it though.

Ulver did it well in their first album which I find weird because I haven't heard of anyone complaining about that album which is also considered a classic yet people bitch about other bands with some clean vocals here and there. Needless to say I disagree with you.

Hopefully you aren't one of those who think it's not BM anymore because of it. I can't stress enough how stupid it is when I hear someone say that it's not BM simply because it features some clean vocals. Also, the word kvlt never meant anything besides "my dick is bigger than your dick" but BM version of it. So I suppose it was used ironically

I consider Ulver's work more as "chanting." I am cool with chanting in BM...I just never thought of the chanting parts as clean to be honest haha. And I don't mind BM that has SOME clean parts in it I suppose, I just prefer my brand to be all lo-fi and harsh. If there are clean vox's I would like it to be around a 20-80 or 10-90 split with clean to dirty respectively.

And I would hope that everyone knows that when I use the term "Kvlt" that it's usually a joke

Why not? They are clean vocals... Chanting is just a type of singing. To me clean vocals is just that... the voices are clean how they sing is a completely different thing.

I don't know why I don't haha...I guess because it just fits the music so well that I don't notice them being clean? If that makes any sense at all? Like the chanting and the harsher vox's go together so well.

It's like ninja singing, I never even noticed they were "clean" until you pointed it out to be honest haha.

A lot of pagan black metal bands employ clean chants... some do it well, others just make you feel awkward and embarrassed.

Out of the few black metal bands I listened to so far, Dimmu Borgir are the best at marrying harsh and normal vocals: Shagrath + ICS Vortex. The Serpentine Offering is one of the songs where this works the best.

i think the threadstarter wants black metal songs, not songs by bands that used to play black metal a few albums before the mentioned song

Good taste dude. I find that clean vocalist so beautiful for epic, though I never know if he in any other metal bands

Others I remember: Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Weeping Birth, Anaal Nathrakh...
