Since 1995, 17 years so far... a friend was listening to iron maiden and I said to him that it was cool stuff, then he put some metallica (ride the lightning and master of puppets) and I was totally blown away it was (and still is) awesome music!

Written by Zombie94 on 16.06.2012 at 23:18 Hmm. Either way it makes them pretty immature friends.
I'm not sure what's more immature - making a friend stop listening to a certain type of music, or giving up a certain type of music for said "friends".
Maturity doesn't have a relation with music imo, but I do respect my friends' opinion since they kinda have a role in my life, but after all they couldn't keep me for long away from metal, I'm back to it and listen to it like I never did before.

I never said it had any relation to music, just that it's quite an immature thing to do, giving your friend an ultimatum of "it's me or your favorite music".
If someone told me that I'd tell them to kindly fuck off and listen to my mp3 player immediately.

Sorry for being back and topic and all , but anyway - I've been listening to metal since about 2004..a bit late, considering it was the last year of high school.
Ironically(?), the friend who got me into metal now barely listens to heavy music..while I thrived and am now a complete and total freak! weird world huh?

Since about 1978 here.
What were some of the bands/albums you started with? Mine were Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.
Started listening to my older brothers' KISS, Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rush, Uriah Heep, Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, etc, discovered Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Rainbow, UFO, Scorpions, Van Halen, etc, that year.
Sorry for the late reply. I don't get on here like I usedf to.

Just two or three years if you don't count Nu metal or Rammstein. Dethklok, Morbid Angel, and Anata were my firsts, if I recall correctly.

Difficult to say, probably at least since I was 10 or 11. So 17 years, that sounds good.

My old man was big on Deep Purple around my birth, so I suppose I have known of metal for my whole life. I didn't take it upon myself to look into the genre more, beyond Deep Purple and whatever well known songs by bands like Black Sabbath I had heard, until the last few years of highschool, which was about 6 years ago now. Started checking out that sort of hard rock/heavy metal stuff of the likes of Blue Oyster Cult, Budgie, Scorpions etc, as well as prog rock like Pink Floyd and Genesis. If I can recall I went for prog rock classics before heading more toward the metal direction.

why would that be hard to believe? Coming September it will be 33 years for me and my interest in the music is stronger than ever and I'm always finding new stuff to enjoy.

Not hard to believe that I'm interested, hard to believe that it's been 10 years.

Because it seems like the past 10 years have flown by. 10 years ago I couldn't even drive on my own, now I have a college degree and may soon be working on another one.

Probably about four years now. Not that long, but long enough to feel nostalgic for some bands and songs, that introduced me to metal.

It started for me about 8 or 9 years ago when someone put on Dio - "Holy Diver". Remembering back, I think it was the live-version from "Inferno". Was totally blown away!

About too years now, I shamefully listened to 50 cent and Eminem when I was about 13 . Then sense got the better of me and I stopped listening to music all together. then about a 3 years ago when I was 15 I listen to only one band for about a year; that band was Nirvana.
Then like I said a couple of years ago I got into Alice in chains, then Slipknot and Machine head. Now I listen to lots of metal everyday. I don't like slipknot that much anymore and I wore machine head out. I at the moment love Opeth, Kreator, Metallica (old albums), Pantera and a few other bands.
Im glad I dont like slipknot anymore there music for isn't that good.

Since I was born, so for 19 years soon... My mum listened a lot to metallica when I was a baby, then dad got me into AC/DC when Ballbreaker came out. But I really realized that I'm a metalhead in 2004 when I got my first Maiden CD; Edward the Great for christmas. That was the real breakthrough for metal in my life.

Yessir. Almost identical. For me, 1983, 11 years old, 6th grade. I saw Iron Maidens "Piece Of Mind" at the record store. The cover art was fucking awesome. Curiosity. Rest is history. 29 years and going...

Yes I know the first time I listened to metal was on September 1 1979 (which was a Saturday, I remember it well) and was immediately sold.

yeah due to all sort of other circumstances. We had just started the last year of primary school (the Monday prior) and that Saturday a couple of us went over to a new kid who had arived in class on the Friday and told us he had loads of cool music. And he played us Kiss - I Was Made For Loving You on cassette as first song while we were in the swimming pool at his house (btw this is all in Singapore and not The Netherlands hahahaha)
