This review is dedicated to the late K. Angylus, mastermind of The Angelic Process and husband of M. Dragynfly, may he rest in peace.

Overwhelming. That is what this The Angelic Process are. Nothing more, nothing less. Almost everything around this band is completely oblivious to me: why I even bought it in the first place, how long they have been around, where they are from. And frankly, I don't even care. My usual unsatisfiable hunger for information has been laid to rest for a while, at least until that which is Weighing Souls With Sand is fully digested.

Just finished listening to it and I honestly can't find anything to match it's beauty . everything I try to play sounds so shallow "with all do respect to every band out there"
The flow of immense emotions captivated me and left me in a total shock . dare I say the most beautiful piece of art ever created

I feel very bad for overlooking this band a billion times. This album is so intense and beautiful. This is like sadness wrapped around beauty.

Absolutely. The amount of emotion put into this release is a rarity among all music, not just metal. A top-notch album I'd recommend to anyone who appreciates melancholy and beauty.

I know how to play that game:

... Also, Sigur Rós have done that stuff since their debut back in 1998. They are not even the first one.

This is the first time I've seen anybody play the electric guitar like this must have something to do with the overall crushing sound on their albums

Matthew Weed of Rosetta does this during the song "Clavius", pretty amazing live and a terrific song!

I checked this album out for the first time today. Wow, some heavy, defeaning shit. Now don't go nuts here fanboys but take away the vocals from either album and this reminds me of Dirge - Elysian Magnetic Fields.

they probably nicked it from Led Zeppelin who most probably stole the idea as well.
Jimmy Page always played large parts of Dazed And Confused that way.

Faal's previous bass player played some bass parts like that as well.

Supposedly Eddie Phillips invented it but Page popularised it.

I have no doubt about that since Led Zepelin also stole a lot of their music from unknown blues artists

I don't think he meant it as in quality.... but as in sound. Which I agree because they don't sound alike at all.

Definitely never thought I'd see TAP compared to Dirge. For any reason, really. :s

I just get a chilled post/atmo feel from both albums. Terrific electronica and heavy bass in common too. It is clear Godflesh had an impression on both bands.

The Dirge album is indeed very good but it's not in the same league as this one.

More importantly, they share very little sound-wise. They should not be compared.

it's called Bow guitar, and is effective for creating really long sustained notes.

Lots of people use it, but Paige was probably the first to popularize it. i think the best use of it is done by Barn Owl.

To me the style has been done best by Sigur Rós, more specific their third album ( ). Probably one of my top 10 non-metal albums.
