Amon Amarth - US Headlining Tour Dates

Melodic death metal tyrants Amon Amarth are proud to announce their 2011 US headlining tour.

Simply dubbed An Evening With Amon Amarth, this very special trek will find the band touring without support and instead performing two separate sets each night! One set will feature upcoming album Surtur Rising in its entirety.

The Viking-inspired festivities will commence on April 14th in Chicago, Illinois and pillage its way through 17 cities throughout the country before drawing to a climactic close on May 7 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tickets are on sale now through all local ticket outlets.

Elaborated drummer Fredrik Andersson: "We're really excited about the upcoming album, Surtur Rising. And what better way to showcase it by playing the full album on our first U.S. tour for Surtur Rising?! It's definitely a unique opportunity for our fans because not only will the album be performed live but a second set with material from our previous albums will take place. We want our fans to really experience Amon Amarth."

You know you're veterans when you travel to the States from Sweden, then travel throughout the States playing two sets a night like it's no big deal.

I don't like the tour name..."An Evening with Amon Amarth"? wtf? Sounds soooo cheesy...like one of those late midnight talk shows. There are so many appropriate names to choose from, like "Burning Towns with Amon Amarth", among others...

Playing two sets on each night, on the other hand, seems intriguing...I envy all those who'll witness first-hand all the already-epic tracks from "Surtur Rising"...

Two sets per night, what awesome bastards!!! This is further proof that Johann Hegg is superhuman. Any other vocalist would lose their voice permanently.

Odin help us all... Judging by the lame marketing scheme and the provocatively stupid flyer, I think Amon Amarth have also fallen into the hands of money-grabbing record company executives... This is not Amon Amarth : it's the construction of an image aimed at US audience. Amon Amarth : the next CoB?

Hmm... Definitely want to go to the Boston gig here. But, I went to check out the purchase price for the May 6 gig at the Paradise, and it lists it as May 7. Then, going to the May 7 show listed for Philly, and it lists it as May 6 on LiveNation. Obviously the press release here says the last show is in fact not in Boston but in Philly, so then what gives? Totally confused what the real date is for the Boston gig.

Anyway, seems like a must see for a tour for AA; let's hope I figure out what's the real schedule...

King Diamond used to play with his band in the opening of Mercyful Fate concerts back in the 80s. regardless, this is one hell of an epic undertaking. marketing ploy or not, these guys will simply destroy every other band, i can't even imagine performing 2 and a half hours every night with no support band.

Yeah, Mike Muir from Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves currently plays a set with each band consecutively.

Haha, I agree.

I find it odd to tour only States, and especially more so since they're an Europe act... Like their European fans wouldn't like two gigs per night service.

They (the european fans) would probably like it too much, and hence freak them out...they chose the safer road instead...
