Oh shit, the Killjoy is reviewing a thrash metal album. Brace yourselves.

ADD-friendly review: This is not the worst album of the revivalist thrash movement I've come across.

In spite of my pseudo-crusade against anything revivalist, I admittedly found Vektor's Outer Isolation to be a clear step above the rest. Now, I compared these guys to Toxik when I first listened to the over-hyped debut, Black Future. They immediately built success off that sound, a highly technical form of thrash metal that even drew some appreciation from the prog crowd. Yet, people kept telling me how much more they had in common with Voivod, so I took a break and caught up with those old school thrashers.

This is the most exciting awaiting for an album!!! (for the last 2 years!!!) to be honest i may be enormously disappointed with everything less than a masterpiece. i am expecting the best 2011 album (or at least one of the top3) from these wonderkids! it will be amazing to listen to Tetrastructural Minds and Fast Paced Society rerecorded!

While I would agree that the band makes good music (though I don't like it enough to buy an album, to tell the truth), I can't help but think you overrate it a bit.

I have no doubt about it. And that's what really matters.

The word gen means "illusion" or "apparition." In India, a man who uses conjury is called a genjutsushi ["a master of illusion technique"]. Everything in this world is but a marionette show. Thus we use the word gen.

Not as good as "Black Future", but still light years ahead of modern thrash metal.

They always reminded me of a poor man's Toxik. Not sure what the big deal is about their sound.

it's just awesome (their sound)...

i think that it wont surpass (probably) black future but surely it is one of the best thrash albums of 2011.

No need to feel for me. It's not like I can't just go listen to Toxik.

They sound more like a poor man's early VoiVod to me but far less off the wall.

Sound, no big deal. Craftsmanship, entirely different story.

some people just get off on pointless showcasing of technicalities

C'mon, really? I mean...wait....really?

Origin is more or less the band I site for showcasing of technicalities and almost zero ability to craft a memorable tune (YMMV).

Craftsmanship and technical prowess are two different aspects of a band.

Vektor crafts a really great thrash tune with some progressive elements thrown in. Yeah, its not ground breaking. Yeah, its been done before. And yeah, its good stuff none the less.

The only point I was really making Troy was that it doesn't have to be revolutionary to still be high quality release. See Havok's Time Is Up for another example.

Bad example if you ask me. Time Is Up is one of the most boring thrash releases I've ever heard.

And one of my favorite thrash releases of the year. To each his/her own. At least Troy, you are consistent.

Nope. Wrong.

Isn't it obvious early beginning, Voivod, pre-Dimension Hatross is their biggest influence?

I never cared for Voivod, so their sound is unfamiliar to me. All I remember is that they aren't a band I enjoy.

Troy I think it's pretty clear from your comments that you simply do not like Thrash metal. You don't like Vektor or Havok? Two of the thrash releases of the year.
I'm not sure why you're even bothering to comment here in that case
