I see no one has mentioned Black Shape Of Nexus. Absolutely crushing, utterly riff-based sludge (except the Microbarome Meetings album which is pure drone) from Germany. They have a couple of releases available for download on their website, especially the Live in Mannheim tape is devastating. I've given a shot to pretty much their whole discography and you can't go wrong with these guys.

Got the cassette demo right in front of me. Know the vocalist (Maurice van der Heijden) pretty well. Got the cassette a couple of weeks ago but side a didn't have any music on it , so got a new copy of the demo last Thursday when attending Saille and Von. The bass player Luuk is also part of grindcore band Rectal Smegma.

I am not a big fan of split EP's, seems like I only dig one of the bands. NOT the case here however:

I've listened quite a lot of post-rock/post-metal/sludge during the past six months... There's just way too much stuff in this thread and I don't know where to start from. I was hoping you guys could give a few other recommendations for me what to explore further. So far I've liked all Cult of Luna albums, Neurosis's Through Silver in Blood (haven't properly listened any other stuff from them though), all Ghost Brigade albums (Isolation Songs being one of my faves). Also I have to mention the two Icelandic bands, Sólstafir & Sigur Rós. I'm especailly looking for some instrumental stuff along these lines. Thanks a lot in advance

Hi! Welcome to the post/sludge thread! It may seem overwhelming at first but if start at the beginning of this topic and look at each post you may find some stuff you like. Usually there is a youtube vid (hopefully not deleted) sporting the music or a bandcamp/myspace/lastfm link so you can try the band out. As for specific band recommendations I can only speak for myself but some of my favorites:

Rosetta - Wake/Lift
Process Of Guilt - Faemin
Dirge - Elysian Magnetic Fields
Mouth Of The Architect - Quietly
Amenra - Mass V

instrumental stuff:
Jakob
Pelican
Year Of No Light - Ausserwelt
Russian Circles
God Is An Astronaut

These are some of my favorite "popular" bands in the post scene today. If u want some obscure suggestions just let me know!

Many thanks!! I'll start with the "popular" ones and probably get to the more obscure ones later on. I just realised there were some quite nice suggestions right at the beginning of the thread, didn't realise to look that far at first.
