Six Feet Under - Chimaira Guitarist Joins Ranks

Chimaira lead guitarist Rob Arnold has officially joined Six Feet Under.

Six Feet Under previously recruited Dååth drummer Kevin Talley, after the spontaneous departure of longtime drummer Greg Gall and bassist Terry Butler earlier this month.

The band released the following statement: "Just wanted to give you a Six Feet Under band update and let you all know that we would like to announce our good friend Rob Arnold will be joining SFU as 2nd rhythm guitarist for up coming touring duties, as well as collaborating on the new CD."

Commented Chris Barnes: "I couldn't be happier about the new songs and line-up! Rob and myself have been collaborating on new songs along with the bands new drummer, Kevin Talley for the past few months. We are all feeling really excited about the bands future, and the raw intensity of the songs that we have created together so far. THIS IS THE HEAVIEST MOST EXCITING MATERIAL THAT I'VE WORKED ON SINCE THE BLEEDING, AND I'M STOKED THAT ROB WILL BE HELPING OUT CREATING THIS CD WITH US! We've all known each other for a while and we're really looking forward to continue writing the new cd and future tours. We are committed to taking Six Feet Under to the next level of brutality!"

Commented Rob Arnold: "It's been an amazing honor and opportunity to have been called upon by one of my biggest idols, Chris Barnes! Six Feet Under and the Barnes era Cannibal Corpse stuff had enormous effects on me as a young musician, and still do to this day. In 1996, I was a kid in the front row screaming my head off to "Lycanthropy" and "Torn to the Bone"... And now here I am, being asked to play the songs on stage with the band! Dreams do come true! And the stuff we've been writing absolutely RIPS! Watch out!"

-Morbid-

Arnold is quite capable of some great solos, as the self-titled Chimaira album showed, so to see him joining as a rhythm guitarist is a bit disappointing. I might have been interested had he been joining as lead guitarist.

So are they going to be trying for Cannibal Corpse sound? As long as it sounds better than the last few SFU albums...

I cant agree more -Morbid- Rob is a great lead guitarist and seeing him accept a rhythm job disappoints me greatly as well. There were some good solos on Chimaira but overall I was disappointed with that album (it sounded too reminiscent of the other self-titled black album that preceeded it by 14 years imo). Impossibility and Resurrected were way better albums. Im not a fan of SFU or Chris Barnes to begin with so I'm def not intrigued by this endeavor of Rob's, I may listen to 1 or 2 tracks out of morbid curiosity just to see what Rob is potentially capable of doing outside Chimaira cuz I was quite disappointed with Infection. Maybe this venture into death/groove will do him, and Chimaira, some good for their next album.

I loved Chimaira's Self Titled album. Still rate it as their best, with Impossibility and Resurrection not far behind. Rob definetly is a talented guitarist and it will be interesting to hear the influences he brings to Six Feet Under, and vice versa.
