Post stories and stuff about the length of time and distances you went across land air and sea to get to see your favorite bands.

-almost exactly 2 years ago i wanted to see Iced Earth and Saxon in concert in Barcelona(where my sister also lived at the time so i could visit her too). the gig was canceled in the end but it was a nice try.

-that year i also went to Wacken by plane to Berlin, and then by bus to Hamburg, and then i changed to another bus to Wacken. took the same trip back, epic times!

-in December of that year i also found myself with nothing to do one friday night so i took a train to Targoviste(a city nearby) to see 9.7 Richter(a local band) in concert. in the end the guys recognized me and were really cool and i rode back home in their car.

-in August last year i took the train all the way from Bucharest to Wacken, started at 5:30 on a Tuesday and arrived there Wednesday night at 21:00 or so, after changing trains in 3 different locations(Budapest, Hamburg, Elmshorn).

-in November i took a plane from Las Palmas(where i lived at the time) to Barcelona to see Blind Guardian. i slept in the airport because the flight arrived almost at midnight. then 2 days later i took another plane to Madrid to see a WASP concert, got robbed of 10 euros on a cold sunny autumn day, they had 3 support bands but WASP still rocked everything even though they played only 75 minutes. then went directly to the airport after the show and slept there, took an early morning flight back "home". the BG show was on the 6th, and WASP on the 9th. on the 7th there was the British Steel fest in Bologna in Italy with Angel Witch and Diamond Head as the participating bands, i'm still a bit upset i couldn't get there too, it would have made for a most epic 4 days.

I never travel far for shows. Most shows I attend are nearby. I live in Belgium at the border with the Netherlands, so when I can't go to a show in Belgium, I go in the Netherlands. Graspop Metal Meeting is 15 km from my door, Neurothic Deathfest and Eindhoven Metal Meeting 30 or 40km. Biebob, Vosselaar is 20km and Hof Ter Loo/Trixx is 45km. So no long distances for me.
This summer though I want to go to Party-san and that's a big 500km. If I go, I drive myself (and my wife back )

I havent been to a show in ages but I can think of 2 good stories:

-A group of friends and I wanted to go see Malmsteen in Toronto (which is about 20 min away from us, by car at least). This was about 4-5 years ago. Anyways we got there early, and waited in line for hours. When the line finally started moving and we had to show our ID's...one of our friends couldn't get in because he had no form of ID on him (and only just now...4-5 years later...is he getting his full license)...so we didn't end up going. So we all tried to sell our tickets to scalpers and made some profit at least.

-My band and I, from the Toronto area, had a show in Montreal. So a large group of my friends were going to make it a trip. Well after driving for 6 hours and finally getting to our hotel, I receive an email from the lousy company that was hosting the show...that the show, which was the next day, was cancelled. Needless to say we were pissed but we stayed in Montreal regardless and had a good time. It sucked because we had invited a lot of people, and a lot of people were planning on showing up. But at least we spared several people from making the trip...and from disappointment.

Bloody Rain
I Am The Night
Well this past September I went on a vacation to Ireland with my wife. When we were going to book the trip I found out that on the day we were going to leave, Dublin Doom Day was on so I had to make sure to extend the vacation by another day just so I could go to that. That was quite an amazing coincidence.

And yes, I would go back to Europe just for a doom metal day like that.

Longest trip I have made for a show thus far is from Edmonton to Vancouver, a cool 13hr drive each way (in the middle of summer) to see Katatonia and Swallow the Sun. We did each trip in one go, four of us packed in this little car that my guitarist was so proud of that he insisted on going in...haha. I plan on making the journey to Wacken and tour around Europe seeing as many festivals as I can, but needless to say that is quite the expense. Maybe next year.

I LOVE traveling for shows! The first one I traveled for was in 2004. I took a 5 hour bus ride up to Nashville, TN for Ozzfest. On the way back from the show to the bus station, I hitchhiked. I saw some random bus leaving the parking lot, ran to it and asked if they were going through Nashville on the highway. They said yes so I got on! They dropped me off on the side of the highway next to an exit. From there, I walked to the bus station...it was about a 2 mile walk, around 1am. I was 17.

I did the same exact thing again in 2005, minus the hitchhiking. I took a cab to the bus station this time!

In 2005, my aunt took me to Europe and while I was there, I was able to catch Avenged Sevenfold, before they became incredibly gay.

In 2006, I flew to New York City to see Emperor. I decided to make an extended weekend out of this a booked 3 nights in a hostel. That was pretty freakin sweet! That's also the farthest I've traveled specifically for a show.

I didn't go anywhere in 2007.

In 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011, I flew up to Baltimore for Maryland Deathfest. 2008 ad 2011 I stayed in a hostel. 2009 and 2010 I stayed in a hotel room with like 6 other people. Too cramped! That's why I stayed in the hostel this year. Same amount of people in the room but at least we all got our own bed. I plan on going back next year too. I fuckin LOVE Maryland Deathfest!

Also, earlier this year, I drove 8 hours to go see Iron Maiden in Florida.

So, can you guys guess why I am always so freakin broke?

I live in Erie, most shows are either close enough and crap or too far away.
I am however going to Colorado to see my Grandfather and coincidently Judas Priest are playing their Epitath tour on the same day I'll be there.
We'll see where that goes.
