The changes Psycroptic made from Ob(Servant) to this thing were significantly subtler than the ones from Symbols Of Failure to Ob. The Ob trajectory, and its emphasis placed on craziness over brutality, was followed for this, so if you didn't dig the direction they went in 2008, or if you think they peaked with Scepters, this album probably won't be the one to sway you on these guys. The riffs are still Psycroptic-brand wobbly, and the death metal influences are still auxiliary to the quirky fretboard wanking. Just like with Ob.

Yeah, I kinda got used to the vocals on (Ob)Servant. Great album with great instrumentals and composition but I still wasn't doing backflips over the vocals. Should be kewl to see.

This is going to RULE. I'm so in love with the guitar work they could almost bomb the rest and I'd still listen. The new vocals fit the music and so far I'm indifferent about them. Think similar to the new Decapitated in style, sound, and delivery with the same slant toward Death Metal growls vs. Core-ish-ness (is that a word?) while still having a scream-ishness to them.

New track can be found and played here: http://soundcloud.com/nuclearblastrecords/psycroptic-carriers-of-the

This thing is ridiculously catchy, as much as I liked 'The Scepter Of The Ancients' I'd have to say this beats it in every aspect at the moment, except the vocals.

I think this was a step back for these guys, (Ob)servant is my favorit album from them, and i hoped they would build on the sound from that album.

I like it a lot. A nice, clean diversion from my typical death metal, brutal dm, slam death, tech death album rotation. I LOVE the precise, clean-sounding, and extremely tight and proficient guitar work. I could listen for that alone. It's a good album, especially when I don't compare it to any of their previous works. I'm new to the band, so that's easy for me.

Is it just me or do the intros to Euphorinasia and Initiate have that same weird backing under the clean guitar?

I still don't understand why they'd choose to adopt the most generic imaginable metalcore vocals for an album like this.

They still are pretty much clueless when it comes to writing actual SONGS. Mediocre songwriting replaced the intense riff salads of previous releases. Which is about the same for me. Next time, maybe, they will write a masterpiece.

I totally agree!

I got only one listening but this last album already seems a masterpiece!

I'm many many listens into it myself, just doesn't get old no matter how hard I try. So from my point of view at least, you've got much fun ahead of you!

I just can't stop listening to this... the production so much better than the plastic-wankery of Ob but the riffs remain.

The vocalist was probably interested in mastering different techniques and experimenting. It can't be fun to do the same screams throughout your entire musical career. That's not to say I like the vocals
