even official snow mobile roads are 99% safe, but we ride over all and be in ice its always at your own risk, and mid april is my border when I go on the ice
We have one ice road for cars, in Luleå you can drive car to small islands . To get to the town I need cross 6 lakes, by snow mobile and almost all roads cross some water way. I gass as crazy when I cross rivers or big big lakes
I couldn't find a topic like this, so I'm not sure if there's a lot of interest in it. But since one of the biggest reasons for my coming here is to discover new music, I think we ought to have a topic dedicated to recommending the latest and greatest music to have just been released. We have staff picks and great reviews already, but a lot of stuff goes under the radar. So share your exciting new discoveries or the comebacks of old favorites with the rest of us here.
I guess it's nice to start this from the beginning of the year, but you can of course recommend some 2010 albums you think were overlooked, too.
My recommendations that haven't already been covered by MS reviews are, so far:
Crowbar - Sever The Wicked Hand: Kirk got sober and found Jesus. Good for him, I guess. It doesn't show in the music, which is as thick, sludgy and melancholy as ever before. Another solid addition to an incredibly consistent discography, if not quite their strongest effort.
DoomSword - The Eternal Battle: I've been pretty unfamiliar with DoomSword for a long time even if I've known about them and heard a song here and there. That's still the case. From what I can tell, though, The Eternal Battle is not quite as doomy and epic as their first albums but rather leans towards traditional heavy metal with the faster riffs and stuff. Pretty impressive nonetheless, there's something authentic and endearing about the band. (Couldn't find a sample, sorry.)
Weedeater - Jason... The Dragon: The sludge/stoner act Weedeater buzzes and crushes away with a deep, heavy sound that really appeals to me. When they're loud, they're tight. There's some strange filler and interludes on this album that don't really fit in, though.
Orchid - Capricorn: Orchid have released a lauded EP already, but Capricorn is their first full-length. They play groovy old school Sabbath worship. It's not new, but why should it be when it's this good?
Something about this album reminded me heavily of Agalloch's White EP. Might be the tree on the cover or the atmosphere... I haven't quite decided. Whatever the case, this is an awesome album/song.
Now that you mention it, I kind of see what you mean. I just happened to stumble across the band yesterday, in the library of all places. I guess the library isn't such a bad place after all.

I haven't listened to the White EP, but I stumbled across the exact same band last night from a different source and thought it was a great album too!
Demisery has been getting attention lately. The shitty metal site, Metal Sucks, streamed the entire album, and I've been seeing it pop up on other forums. Apparently it's a project by a guitarist named Keith Merrow, who's known for fancy guitar playing, but decided to make just a "normal" death metal album
I have just acquired three albums and all of them are worth a listen.
Iced Earth - Dystopia (This is an album that spells a return to form for IE, Stu's vocals really invigorate the sound of the band, he is somewhere between Ripper and Matt Barlow combining elements of both to produce a quality sound on the album)
Megadeth - Thirteen (The latest in the revival of Megadeth over the last few years, this is a worthy follow up to Endgame and another good quality album.)
Stream of Passion - Darker Days (A beautiful album, with a beautiful voice, its not as dark as their last, but it is a bit more progressive that takes elements of folk, classical and flamenco mixing it into a stunning metal sound.)
Kind of reminds of Summoning. Not completely mind you but they both use that synth-esque kind of ambiance and both are quite slow and use that distanced type of production/recording technique. Good stuff really, very nice find.
The new album by Neige et Noirceur. A one men project mixing all that is black and atmospheric. I couldn't find any vids of his new stuff but that might give you an idea.

For the tech death fanatics like myself I would also highly recommend checking out Fallujah's The Harvest Wombs. These guys are one of those deathcore bands that wised up and started writing "real" metal like Abigail Williams and The Faceless (and JFAC if you consider any of their albums any good).
