Hey guys, so I'm really into thrash metal, and I've been looking for some old-school death metal, along the lines of Death, Master, Morbid Angel, etc. Just wondering if you can recommend anything, thanks.

Try out Dead Congregation, Grave Miasma (sounds a lot like Morbid Angel when you play their vinyl on 45rpm instead of 33rpm ), Cruciamentum, Miasmal, Stench Of Decay, Anatomia (very very Autopsy like) to name but a few

Autopsy Bolt Thrower Convulse Dismember Entombed Gorefest Grave Incantation Iniquity Massacre Necrophobic Obituary Pestilence Pungent Stench Unanimated Unleashed etc. etc. etc. That list (and Marcel's) should combine to kick your ass.

21.03.2011 - 00:56 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 20.03.2011 at 23:56 That Undergang album is a little gem, thanks for the rec. Anyone who likes the old school Swedish DM sound will like Repugnant's epitome of darkness LP. The album was released in 2006 but the sound is highly reminiscent of the old school bands. They have also released a lot of demos and EP's which are worth a look aswell.

A lot of good bands being mentioned here. A lot of bands that I'm not familiar with too, which is a good thing because I haven't really discovered much in the way of new death metal material lately.

Talking about Finnish bands : Phlegethon are one of the founding fathers of Finnish death metal. All of their material is good. Check it out. Going back to the USA : Incubus (changed their name to Opprobrium) is kick ass old school death

How the hell could I forget two bands that do my country proud Hail Of Bullets (new though old school with a veteran star studded line up) and of course the almighty Asphyx. Especially their demos and first two full lengths and mini as well as comeback album Death... The Brutal Way.

Infesters To the Depths (In Degredation) is a very good album but i STRONGLY ADVISE PAYING NO ATTENTION TO THE LYRICS which contains racist undertones, fortunately though the lyrics are so indecipherable that its not much of a problem. The Sound is a sort of blackened death metal mixture filthy as all hell with a really dark sound. Anyone who hasnt should check out Crystal Age and there only LP Far Beyond Divine Horizons. Its sort of similar to Nocturnus (another great band).

Demiurg (Mr. Dan Swano plays lead guitars...need I say more?) - They have an old-school vibe! Desultory - These guys are old school swedish death metal, although their latest album is more melodic. I've never heard their older albums, but their first are great apparently. As for their 1996 album...apparently that's quite garbage! But the latest album is awesome!

Why doesn't anyone ever mention Cannibal Corpse? If you want old school death metal, they are the ones that i think keep to death metal's truest roots.
