Metallica - done

Gojira - I've only heard Mars and Flesh, so I don't know if they've always sounded like that or not, and L'Enfant was nom'd in Alt, so Idk what the timeline might should be like...

Trepalium - haven't heard enough to judge them

In Vain - according to the logs they've been tagged this way since they were first added back in 2008

Sunpocrisy - don't see any mention of them on the previous couple of pages

Metallica - I think the Beyond Magnetic EP should also be labelled thrash.

Gojira introduced prog death and groove thrash into their sound on their 1999 demo. Saturate (most of which are demos of the tracks featured on Terra. Prior to that they were simply death metal.

Song from Saturate (1999):

Song from 1997 demo:

I think it would be appropriate to add the prog tag in addition to prog death starting with L'Enfant Sauvage. Personally, I believe people mistook the additional prog elements for alternative...I hear no alternative, but there's definitely been a change of a sound and alternative would suffice if others see that as appropriate. This is how I would do it:

- Death metal (1996-1998)
- Progressive death metal (1999-)
- Groove thrash metal (1999-)
- Progressive (or alternative) metal (2012-)

Here's what I wrote on Sunpocrisy:
Quote:
Can someone change Sunpocrisy's tags to this?

- Extreme progressive (2007-2011)
- Post-metal (2007-)
- Progressive metalcore (2012-)

There's no death in their first release. It's pretty much extreme prog at max. The post elements are introduced in that EP and continue to prevail through their following release. I think they sound pretty prog metalcore-ish in their latest release. Post-metal also covers any trace of sludge in their music.
The extreme prog tag seems to be in consensus, but the rest is up to you whether to leave that up to debate or not. At the very least, the atmospheric sludge tag should be removed given that it's equivalent to post-metal for most intents and purposes.

As for Trepalium, this song represents their style pretty nicely. The only difference is that their latest EP (as shown in the song) features fusion whereas their debut does not.

The band's website and bandcamp page say this album was released in 2012, not 2011. http://www.metalstorm.net/bands/album.php?album_id=70905&band_id=7814&bandname=Hemina Change?

Since there's another official source than Bandcamp, yes. I've seen a number of times where Bandcamp displayed wrong release dates or they show a re-release date but neglect to indicate there that the album was re-released and/or what the original release date was. So it's always best not to fully trust the Bandcamp pages.

From band page where you buy album

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/music/browse/metal/synthetic/274023/

Buy the way, do cover songs have to be labelled as such, or is it just optional?

By the way, do cover songs have to be stated as such on every album, or is it just optional?

official page, official merchandise

Available - 14/10/11

so IO change back. since we have 1th date rule only

Bit silly of them to keep this on their site, then, if it's wrong. http://hemina.com.au/?page_id=41

Any comments on Metallica, Gojira, Trepalium, and Sunpocrisy?

As for In Vain, prog death isn't very accurate. Prog death is like Edge Of Sanity, The Faceless, Akercocke, etc. In Vain is far from that.

- Extreme progressive metal
- Blackened death metal

OR

- Extreme progressive metal
- (Progressive) Death metal
- (Progressive) Black metal

Even extreme progressive on its own would be far more descriptive a tag for their style.

Also, can someone change Continuo Renacer's prog tag to instrumental prog? There're no vocals.

............. You're missing the point. Case and point: Witherscape - check their styles out. In Vain's focus is extreme progresive, which has nothing to do with death metal whatsoever. Nonetheless, they do employ some black, death, and blackened death from time to time. Hence my suggestion.

Speaking of Witherscape, I think that the atmospheric death metal tag has no place there. Progressive death + extreme prog is enough to cover any "atmospheric" element.

Nope. Because progressive death + extreme prog can result in totally unatmospheric music.

Hence, why I put atmospheric in quotes There's nothing of the sort in Witherscape's sound at all.

Edit: if Witherscape is atmospheric then so is Opeth

How come some bands don't have countries? Are the members from different places, so there's no set nationality for the band or something?
