So for some reason this band still goes under the radar on Metal Storm. Lich King hail - and they truly hail - from Amherst, Massachusetts (if that says anything to you). Rumors go that the first two albums were created completely by one man, known as Tom "A Fucking Tyrannosaur" Martin. In 2010, Lich King (and it seems that Tom had a company this time) recorded the third album World Gone Dead (read my review here), the band's most accomplished achievement to date. They are also famous for a song called "Black Metal Sucks" from the second album Toxic Zombie Onslaught.

Lich King will release a new album this year, and if things go well, two (the second one will be a live CD probably). Update on Facebook.

I actually didn't think it was that special. I'd say for 2010, Atheist Crusade by Immaculate was better when it comes to the revivalist stuff, even though their debut was a bit of a turd.

You mean World Gone Dead? What about "Act of War," "ED-209," and "Behaver?" Didn't like those?

Hmm, seems my initial reaction was very wrong. This is becoming one of my favorite thrash resurgance albums. Turns out it does have more than a little fast sections.

Their first two albums are kinda bland, badly produced, boring and kinda lame sometimes, even if they have some cool riffs, they are drowned in a reeeaaaaaallly bad sound. BUT "World Gone Dead" was like the real debut of the band, something fast, strong, killer stuff overall, simply one of my favorite Thrash metal albums of 2010. I thought they were ok with that, but HOLY MOLLY, their fourth installment, "Born Of The Bomb" kicked some asses real hard, that is a perfect example of what modern Thrash metal should be. I think some may disagree, but if Gary Holt of Exodus thinks they are quite cool, maybe you should give them a try, specially their last two releases.

Don't worry man, when it comes to Modern Thrash Metal, people lose their minds and use the usual ''Bland, uninspired, copied, boring''. But the truth is, Modern thrash rulez and so does Lich King. I liked their latest and they're funny as hell.

The thing is while these dudes are goofy and have fun, it is quite obvious Tom takes this band very seriously and really tries to deliver the best he can, improve from album to album and promote his band like crazy (I have never seen such zealous consistent self-promotion like these dudes are doing). Another thing about having fun and being goofy: sure there are songs like "Black Metal Sucks" and "Behaver" but the new album has stuff like "Wage Slave" and "In the End, Devastation" as far as lyrical content is concerned.
