Being around for almost 20 years, Esoteric never were in a hurry to release as many albums as they could every 1-2 years. For some artists the burden of the aforementioned title is grandiose and they'd never exchange not even a bit of their quality for quantity. Esoteric belong to this group, they always took their time to bring together the main concept of every album and place in the right place at the right time all the ideas and emotions that were overrunning them at the time. And whenever it felt right a new work was coming our way to cleanse the band's world and torment the audience with all this sense of decay, horrid beauty and decomposition of morals transformed into vast fields of devastating soundscapes. So, almost 20 years of existence gave birth to 6 abhorrent children, with the successor to the throne being the newborn Paragon Of Dissonance, from the same septic womb, with the same unearthly stare, but with its very own personality and characteristics.

A solid 8 from me. I like it a lot but didn't do it for me like the previous record.

But then again The Maniacal Vale is a once in a lifetime achievement for most bands. It would have been impossible to top that one or even be equal to it, imo.

Probably true. The hype for this one was lost on me though so it's more or less just become another good album, rather than a good album by I band I love.

what hype?
It is a good album that's what everyone is saying. And a good album by a band I love. It's as good as their non-Maniacal Vale stuff imo on a par with their first four. So a solid 8 instead of a solid 9 for me.

I think it's pretty good stuff, but like on many other Esoteric albums I listen to one or two songs and then press stop button because I've had enough of it. I don't know why, maybe the overall length is discouraging, but "huge" albums have never been a problem for me; for example, when I have time, I can even listen to the whole Joanna Newsom album "Have One On Me" (over two hours of music), or some very long Steve Roach albums too. But those are other music genres, so it might be the combination of length and funeral doom that I find inaccessible.
I would give it a 7 or even an 8, since I do think it's well crafted and engrossing; but I didn't listen to it entirely.
I really, really want to love them, but turns out that they're always excessively challenging for my mind/ears.

Can't blame you. Esoteric is definitely one of the toughest in the genre to get into... But once you do it sure as hell pays off.

Disagree. The first time I listened to them (The Pernicious Enigma) I was hooked.

I disagree with myself as well since the first album I heard (The Maniacal Vale) was just love at first sight. But I've heard too many people saying that it's hard to get into them so I just think we are special :3

Honestly I thought Worship was more difficult to get into than Esoteric. I had to listen to Last Tape Before Doomsday twice.

Worship is wat easier than Esoteric to get into imo, even though I got into Esoteric in one listen as well. I find Worship not as extreme as Esoteric due to the beautiful melodies used (a bit like Loss and Mournful Congregation in that respect)

And wow you listened to Last Tape Before Doomsday? I didn't know you had a cassette player or even owned it
All I listened to are Dooom, Last CD Before Doomsday, and Last Vinyl Before Doomsday

@Troy (and everyone), is there any reason by Mournful Congregation's Book of Kings is getting all the press? They are wonderful no doubt about it but Esoteric is the king of funeral doom IMO.
