I made a similar version ages ago in old MS, here is the new version, its not something spoken of really that much, and i was wondering what style of song people prefer. The important thing is, you dont think about genres, only what makes an individual song. I have really only made these 5 options up, i tried to break them down yet keep it simplified. I dont think ive missed anything too important, but there will be some things not covered. I understand it might be a hard desicion, because you will like more than one, just have to pick one, the one that you enjoy the most.

For me, i would have to say i like music that escapes the boundaries of song structure (that is, intro, verse chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus, outro or similar) which is Epic, i enjoy thinking of an environement and making up pictures in my head when listen to some of these styled songs.

Have your say.

I don't vote because i don't have a favorite style. with me it just changes with my mood, so therefore it changes a lot. sometimes i just may want up tempo and nothing else, and then i'll just switch to epic... etc.

I like music which defies the typical idea of how to do things. This is maybe why I love 70's prog rock, advantegarde metal and am usually drawn to stuff that has some kind of noise influence. Not saying I only listen to this stuff (sadly most stuff which fits under those categories kind of suck) but I like tot hink I have a pretty open mind (or acceptance) to most music styles)

Well, generally I'd like a song to have it all. Those are the best...

You know those few songs that really makes you think that they just weren't aiming for one thing, but everything songs that have fast, mid-tempo and slow parts at the same time, are extremely heavy yet still melodic and dramatic, have good straightforward parts as well as awesome instrumental sections, and still manages to sound like a coherent, epic masterpiece.

These songs are VERY hard to pull off making though, and they tend to get quite lengthy. When they are done properly though they are really the best around.

Examples of these few songs for me would be:

Deströyer 666 - Unchain The Wolves
Darkthrone - Kathaarian Life Code
Ceremonial Castings - Our Journey Through Forever
Weakling - This Entire Fucking Battlefield

For me, it's according to mood. I voted Mid Tempo, because I enjoy such songs in almost any mood.
