Anyone into math here?

Say, i have two continuous functions f_1(x) and f_2(x)
Then in general can one say that Max f_1(x) - Max f_2(x) is greater than or equal Max (f_1 - f_2)(x)?
The maximums are taken over x, of course

i think not.As far as i remember the functions analysis such generalizations cant be made in case of functions.In order to prove that you would have to find all max values (to infinities) and check them all in order to prove such assumption. Check the "function maximums theorems and relations" for details.

but why on earth would you mess with function analysis?

It is wise to have basic maths theorems,laws and equations at your side while doing math/math intense things.

In my case trigonometry and calculus stuff.I just cant remember those equations and rules ,but i can work with them when the rules are provided

Yeah later I figured out what holds is actually the opposite inequality.

Since for every f_1 and f_2 it holds Max(f_1 + f_2)(x) <= Max f_1(x) + Max f_2(x)
We can write f_1 as f_1 - f_2 + f_2 and then use
Max f_1(x) = Max((f_1 - f_2) + f_2)(x) <= Max (f_1 - f_2)(x) + Max f_2(x), then summing -Max f_2(x) to the relation on both sides we get the other inequality

Which is pretty bad, because I realy needed the wrong one =/

why dont you use differentials instead? they are basically local maximum/minimum of a function and around certain point can be used for functions inspection?
you can sum all the maximum/minimum points over the whole range if you need that....

Because the functions I'm working with are only continuous, not differentiable =p

Also the function f here doesn't have specific formula, they are kinda generic, namely I have aformula involving another function F(x) which is let variable, then
f_1(x) = Max <F(y),x-y> where <,> is the usual inner product and the max is taken over y. (after the max is taken it becomes only a function of x)
It would be differentiable if not for that maximum, but it isn't. Then f_2 has a similar structure f_2(x) = Max <F(x), x - y>
