Perhaps, or maybe just to overwhelm the whole mess with garlic? To tie into the middle eastern theme music and now food, my favorite online chef recently posted this recipe which I intend on making soon and it does seem like an odd mix of flavors...

Haha, a friend follows the same guy and sends me links to his videos sometimes. Indeed that looks delish. I encourage you to try it, and give me feed back, because it's pomegranate season here.

But then the whole Australian education system is garbage - between 33% and 50% of all Australians finish 12 years of school functionally illiterate and we lag behind the Asians in terms of science and maths results.

I think a lot of them become delivery drivers.

I was referring to some of them's inability to read the full address on the items they're delivering. Stuff goes to 2 different doors at work, yet some drivers can't tell the difference between gates 7-8 and gates 16-18.

Tradies earn a decent income here in Australia.

The working poor are the people working in supermarkets and shops, in restaurants, cleaners etc etc.

Minimum wage over here is as poor work as it gets unless your under 18 i think. But yeah i know tradies do well over there, that's why most of our tradies are over there, wasn't talkin about poor work anyway.

There's other dodgy tricks in Australia that are actually legal:

1. Putting on government funded trainees and then not extending them. Trainees are paid less than dole for full time work!
2. Using 456 visas to hire cheap migrant labour (very prevalent in IT).
3. Government funded placements for handicapped or migrant labour - in essence working full time for the dole.
4. Rejigging job descriptions for them to come under a different pay rate. Happened to me - I was a junior stock broker and was meant to be on $32,000 a year. But they relabelled the position into a "Financial Markets Officer" so they could pay me the minimum wage ($25,500 per annum at that stage). Same work, just $6,500 less per year. An accounting firm I worked for paid even less.

A lot of employers just rort the system anyhow and don't pay appropriate rates or shirk on paying things like superannuation.

It's why I like government - I now get paid nearly $100,000 =+ superannuation of 8% for less responsibility and less productive work than a junior stockbroker!

So your a Berber, then?

Well, yes and no. My father is almost completely a Berber from the Rif (that's the name of the mountains in the north), but my mother is Arab, with some black genes. I just look like a Xeroxed copy of my father, so we kinda look Spanish (which is geographically correct, Tangier being 7 kms away from Spain). I didn't inherit the Berber culture, though, which almost really renders my being half Berber to a coincidence. My father isn't really the sharing type, I just got the looks of them .

Berbers, and war.
Dead one not talking about war would be worrying.

No problema, I myself don't know enough, and too often I see attempts at masking these ethnic differences, of which I wasn't even aware until I hit rather late teen age. With parents that are not too fond of transmission and talking, I had to wait until moving to Agadir and making friends there, where the Berber population is dominant and visible.

Understanding the complex interactions between the different tribes in North Africa - and well, just the whole of Africa really - is key. Especially now that the conflicts are made to look like only religion-motivated. I could listen to my best friend's husband talk about the different ethnicities in Senegal for hours. I just wish I could travel more, or find bullshit-free people to tell me more about all this stuff.

Not at all. I am dying here. Been planning my escape before I even landed here.

I am truly and alien here. And I feel even less welcome than ten years ago. The whole country is going down the tubes.

That sucks. I thought things were on the up in Morrocco in terms of at least development.

And no offence, but your parents don't seem like much fun!

Mine weren't either but my inlaws are good value for the most part (though they like all humans have their moments).

Very true. Westerners don't understand it and oversimplify. They think those colonial era borders they drew up in the great carve up of Africa actually mean something to the locals. They made same mistakes with Middle East and countries like Afghanistan.

Try having kids. Travel becomes even more a pipedream. And you don't enjoy the little that you do as you're too focused on looking after your spawn. One day though we're going to have some fun travelling with her when she is old enough to enjoy it.

If you come here, don't do it by boat. You might end up in New Guinea or Cambodia.

I think a lot of it is cultural. Basically boganisation of society.

My wife works for the courts and out of half a dozen trainees they've had in the last several years, only 1 had displayed any competence (and she's now permanent). The others were all failures - lazy, unwilling to learn, unprofessional etc. Successful completion of training led to well paid government work that is highly sought after (especially as private companies pay poorly and don't offer secure employment or even necessarily safe employment).

In case you hadn't noticed I did specify "where peace is not possible if people continue to live together." Rwanda and Burundi would've been better of as Hutuland and Tutsiland as opposed to seriously flawed multi-ethnic states that ended up with slaughter up to 1.3 million people in both countries. Or in terms of Germany, a world war that killed 80 million people.

And just cause individuals are nice doesn't mean groups of people are tolerant of each other.

Africa is diferent, its Europe faulth after colonization period, when we have independence, border is just line in the map what does not make any sense.

That's the people problem, they need belong somewhere, they need grow and grow to understand a lot of things ...

Role Playing Game - ala Dungeons and Dragons. You have a sheet of paper with stats, some dice and use your imagination to fill in the gaps.

In this case it's Rogue Trader which is set in the 41st Millenium universe of Warhammer 40,000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000_Roleplay ).

We could play rpg here on the forum. We pick sheets of paper that are on our side and use a random function of any software for the dice and post here.
