Metallica & Lou Reed - Reveal Album Cover Art

The musical collaboration between Lou Reed and Metallica, entitled Lulu, will be released on November 1 in North America via Warner Bros. Records and one day earlier (October 31) in the rest of the world through Universal Music.

The cover artwork Lulu can be seen below.

The CD was co-produced by Reed, Metallica, Hal Willner ? who has produced albums for Reed, Marianne Faithfull, and Laurie Anderson, among others ? and Greg Fidelman. Fidelman also mixed the record.

A total of 10 tracks will appear on the final record. Confirmed songtitles so far include: "Brandenburg Gate", "Frustration", "The View", "Cheat On Me", "Junior Dad", "Little Dog", "Mistress Dread" and "Pumping Blood".

The idea for these two giants of modern music to work together was born after the 25th anniversary Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame concerts in New York City in October 2009. Metallica played with Reed on The Velvet Underground classics "Sweet Jane" and "White Light/White Heat".

The hype about their collaboration was high enough and now we just had a glimpse of what might come into fruition. Can't judge any further unless we listen to the album first.

I wonder if title and cover have anything to do with the main character of Frank Wedekind's plays Earth Spirit and Pandora's Box. From the look of the cover it might very well resemble Lulu's fall at the end of the latter.

It sure does make a connection to the title AND probably to the cover. Read the previous news and interviews about the album, or just go to their official website.

For some reason I think this will probably be closest to Load and Reload. They were their attempts at mainstream rock.

Me too.

The Velvet UNDERground is not mainstream at all.
Seriously.

Besides, this is not a Metallica record. It was composed by Lou Reed and they will surely only contribute some heavyness and vocals.

I should hate everything about this... A band that hasn't done anything great in years working with a 70 year old hipster releasing an album called Lulu based on a series of old plays with a psuedo-artsy album cover... Sounds like something designed for psuedo-intellectual hipsters who will listen to this album due to the 'irony' of the collaboration, yet for some reason I'm looking forward to this. I guess it's because I have no idea what it will sound like-I already know what the Megadeth album is going to sound like, a slightly inferior version of Endgame, but what the hell would a Metallica/Lou Reed collaboration produce?

I like both Lou Reed and Metallica, so I am interested in this. I'm not going into this with expectations that it will sound anything like a Metallica record. It is possible that it won't even be very metal, but since I like a lot of stuff out there that isn't heavy, it may still appeal to me as long as the songs are good.

I love Lou Reed and his work with the Velvet Underground. I liked Metallica until Load (which sucked). I really think that these two elements cannot combine together successfully, but I'm hoping Lulu will prove me wrong.

I don't think it's possible for me to be disappointed by it, seeing as I have no expectations for it at all. But I'm definitely intrigued to hear what it sounds like. I just hope that a proper new Metallica album hasn't been delayed too much by this...

As for the cover, it is awful, but hopefully the music will be better.
