Aborted really have pushed the boat out with Global Flatline, and even if the only down-side is that most of the Coronary Reconstruction EP finds its way onto this album too, they are totally re-recorded and much faster, heavier and bloody brutal.

There'll always be someone who finds the effort to whinge and moan about a band deviating from their original sound, but Global Flatline will emphatically put a boot into these faces with its much more brutal approach to death metal than the last few. It's the same brutality we both suffered and enjoyed from the Engineering The Dead album, but with a much tighter band, a clearer sound and a whole lot more swagger.

They've had a lot of time to make something good here. Please don't be a continuation of the recent shit they've been doling out.

That isn't the intro to the album, just the single they released earlier.

And that song was more in line with Goremageddon, not Strychnine.

Either way, I'll wait until I hear more than the single to judge.

If the rest of the album is similar I'll be happy. Low "7" material based on that but who knows, maybe they release some really intense, brutal deathgrind.

Really enjoying this album. Been listening to it almost non-stop for a few days. Just a shame that half of it is recycled from the last EP.

Question: why is this band listed as 'Melodic Death Metal' on this site? I mean, really?

Question: why is this band listed as 'Melodic Death Metal' on this site? I mean, really?

That's because they've been brutal death metal from 1995 'till present, but from 2008-2011 their albums incorporated some melodic death metal elements (while still being brutal death of course).

Just bought it! I think it's awesome, but i'm also tired. My first intro to Aborted, and i'm now feeling great about 2012!

Although the vocals are a bit too much for my liking, I can get over it. It's Aborted at a very high level and an excellent album start to finish. Really, really good. Probably won't appeal to the more death metal 'purist' types, as it has some 'core-ish' inklings (see: vocals) but not enough to detract from an otherwise terrific release. After already several listens now, I know it's going to be highly rated for me.

This album is a lot better than the past 2 full length albums for sure. It's as if they scrapped the whole brutal death/melodic death fusion, but kept the melodeath ethos for the solos. This album is groovy, with the right doses of technical, and mostly brutal throughout (not a mind-melt brutal, more like a "I want to start destroying everything" brutal) .
The big deal breaker for some people are going to be the vocals. I'm not a fan of the whole style associated to -core vocals, but if there's anyone who can pull it off properly, it's Sven. I mean I preferred him most in Engineering the Dead, but what can I say, I really enjoyed this album. Definitely a comeback in my opinion, and a strong one!

This is definitely their best effort in a while, but there is a bit too much deathcore stuff in it for my liking. The instrument playing is pretty fantastic, but the many deathcore elements, especially in the vocals, turn this into something a little bit mediocre in my opinion.

Oh man, Asylum cave is such a gooood album!.... wait, wrong thread.... seriously though, they sound alike to me with this one looking weak in comparison, but maybe it's just subtle through the genre? idk.

Once again, the guitar work and drums here are very well executed, featuring some of the band's best songs. I've said before i'm not exactly a fan of the vocals, but the only other negative i could find here is the length of the album itself. It may only be 50 minutes spread across 15 tracks, but i felt the album could have done well with three or four songs less, especially as some of the riffs tend to repeat themselves. Certainly their best for the last three or four years.

The accessibility of this album got me into the heavier genres of metal. They pulled off something really unique here - I haven't heard anything like it. Those solos are killer as well. Everything was brilliantly written barring tracks 7, 11, and 12 IMO.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but I'm a sucker for guest performances. Vermicular, Obscene, Obese is actually my favorite track on this album. Strnad's vocals really make the chorus stand out and weirdly sing-along.

Honestly I couldn't really tell he was guesting on that track He sounds quite similar to Aborted's vocalist IMO.

Damn good album here. It feels like they finally found a good blend of their older, more brutal ways, and the newer MeloDeath-type stuff they tried to do previously.
