Hello, guys! I think the title says all. I searched for a while but nobody can really explain this question. I don't listen to these styles too much... I even don't like them too much.

Nothing more to say, I guess. Can you help me (explain with you own words) ?

Thanks!

Metalcore:

Metal plus hardcore. Shouted vocals, heavy riffs and whatnot, aggression and breakdowns and such.

Nu-metal:

Metal plus new ... Heavy, usu. downtuned, dreadlocks on whiteboys, groovy riffs, sometimes rapping.
(Although Rage Against The Machine fits this, and they're apparently not nu-metal...)

dreadlocks on whiteboys

That doesn't have anything to do with the music. Otherwise Amorphis would be considered nu metal.

Limp Bizkit, Korn, POD, early Papa Roach, early Linkin Park, Coal Chamber. Those are all examples of Nu-metal

Metalcore: Between the Buried and Me, Burst, Converge, Shadows Fall and Protest the Hero are examples of good metalcore.

Bad metalcore... I'm sure you can figure this one out

Also check out Killswitch Engage's 'Alive or Just Breathing' album - one of the progenitors of modern melodic metalcore and a damn fine album to boot, probably the best example of the style.

There's not much similarities between the two actually... Nu metal is based on simple downtuned three not groove riffs, often times hip hop styled vocals, while mainstream metalcore is primarily melodic death metal riffs, catchy pop choruses, hardcore shouts for vocals, and hardcore breakdowns.

Annoying three note groove riff with rapping vocals that has no progression of any sort? I think we have a nu metal band here.

Melodic death metal riffs, catchy clean vocal chorus, shouts during verses, breakdowns sprinkled throughout? Smells like metalcore brah. This song has much less breakdowns then typical metalcore, but it's a great album so why not.

And here is an example of metalcore that is currently trendy. The riffs are similar to the AILD song, but not as good, breakdowns are more prevelant, there's a pointless electronic section at the end, and it's just kind of gay in general. Not gay as in homosexual, gay as in lame.

Invalid counter-argument is invalid. That's like saying "downtuned is not a typical characteristic of nu metal, otherwise Sunn O))) play nu metal."

While obviously the appearance of the musicians doesn't describe the music, it can describe the genre as a phenomenon. It also doesn't matter that the same trait is found elsewhere: you can describe dogs as four-legged creatures who like sausage, and that isn't invalid just becase your uncle also likes sausage but isn't a dog. I don't know if white boys with dreadlocks are statistically signifigant in nu metal, but it seems to capture the stereotype quite well. It may have been a silly generalization, but not as silly as the quoted reactions to it.

Such a silly reaction it is to argue someone else's point. Why doesn't everyone just agree with you and shut the fuck up.

Not as much as Freddy here.
BTW, 2 songs from the album don't appear in that clip.

Don't shoot the messenger, I didn't make the video.

Good job noticing though. I honestly can't tell the songs apart. :s

I know they'e missing cause they don't contain the word "fuck". Aside from Getcha Groove On and the long version of Rollin' (which have guest vocalists) I can't tell most of the snippets apart. Actually, it might be 3 missing, I don't think Boiler contains any swearing either. But once it gets past the opening of Hotdog it all starts to blur together.

How I would have answered this question....... Metalcore seems to be like a watered down version of At The Gates......plus very slight hardcore overtones......oh yeah and an "Emo-ish" sort of image.

Nu-Metal, is either like Alternative Rock on crack (oh and NO guitar solos!).......or it's really bad Rap with guitars.

lol.
