I am wondering if any one can recommend some good German metal, black would be the most ideal but I enjoy most styles of metal. I know there must be some good stuff out there, I just don't really know where to start. I'd also prefer that they "sing" in German too. I already know about Absurd, a lot of industrial bands are German but it's just not the same, and although I consider Rammstein to be a form of metal I would like to hear some other stuff. Thanks in advance guys.

Some years ago (2005) I knew a great german band, IMMORTAL RITES, they do a very good death metal with some melodic touch, they have two albums: "Art of Devolution" (2004) and "For Tyrant's Sake" (2007), try it. Besides, I knew, through e-mail, to Ralf Hauber, the bass polayer, he's a great guy.

My apologies if these bands are already mentioned but look no further than :

Verdunklen
Helrunar
Nagelfar
Falkenbach (if you like some folk influence in your black metal)
Agrypnie
Nocte Obducta
Anti
Black Autumn
Geist (I really recommend their album Galeere)
Impavida
Last Moon's Dawn
Nargaroth
Nyktalgia
Secrets of the Moon
Sieghetnar (Erhabenheit demo.. one track for that album.. goes for 33 minutes)
Sterbend (for some crazy vocals.. still not as good as Nattramn's. )
Sun of the Sleepless (album 'I')
The Ruins of Beverast
Todeskult
Trist (get the album 'Hin Fort' and listen to the track 'Hin'. If it doesn't take you to outerspace, then stop listening to metal )

Guaranteed satisfaction.

Since the original post I've found some that I enjoy, a few that you listed as well. Falkenbach, Secrets Of The Moon, Nargaroth, Nocte Obducta and I thought I had heard Trist but, turns out I have one release by the Czech band, not the German one, so I'll definitely check them out. Favourite German band this far is still Absurd, they just have a good mix of folk and metal with top notch clean vocals and just enough harsh vox to keep it interesting still.

Hm...Absurd...they may be doing some interesting music (in some aspects), but find me more NS band how them...plus they have murdered their 15 years old classmate back in 93...and unlike Varg, who served 18 years for his murder (still it is not enough for many people), they were released in less then 5 years, because they were "too young" in the time they made the crime :? (only Hendrik Möbus served some more, because he fled to USA after violating a parole and was imprisoned here)

Nachtfalke
Taunusheim

Noone into Totenmond? Awesome band ,their genre could not be described and I'm not going to try it either, just check them out.
One tip: their 2001 album "Auf Dem Mond Ein Feuer" is a punk cover album. Check out Lichtbringer or Unter Knochen instead.
