So, apparently the AFL had to pay a fee to Warner Bros because the new AFL team will be called the Tasmanian Devils, just because WB thinks they own global copyright to the name of an animal
Nice, even I like some of these. And technical stuff or DM in general aren't my cup of tea (save for some doomy traditionalists). But yeah, definetely good to see you planning to check out Portal. They are wonderful.

Unusual death metal is something I always crave but rarely encounter and seeing as there's many an artist written here I've not before heard I look forward to finding some unusual approaches to the genre.
You could also add The Chasm, Mithras, Trepalium, Akercocke, Baring Teeth, Portal, Mitochondrion, Ulcerate, Impetuous Ritual, Diocletian, Pyrrhon, Symbyosis, Carcariass, Convulse, Kalisia, Martyr, Hieronymus Bosch...the list goes on.
since when are The Chasm and Convulse avantgarde/progressive/technical death metal?

No Textures? ;(
Since when does Texy counts as dm?
and since when does Yakuza count as dm?
Dudes, way too much question
I chose Yakuza because they do have some death metal-ish parts. Although I've only heard that one album When I'll have the time to check all their stuff it may get removed. Also, thanks for the heads up on this.
I don't know Convulse or The Chasm, that's why they marked as TO CHECK. It was recommended by Troy,
For me Psyopus doesn't even count as music. Same for Brain Drill. I'll add Scrambled Defuncts and Separatist as TO CHECK though, also Troy already mentioned Ulcerate.
In that case why are Archspire, Illogicist, Archons, Martyr, Sleep Terror, Cerebrum, First Fragment unusual?
If you say that these bands are not something unusual in terms of death metal, I say then what is (?...). Archspire has crazy grooves mixed with
Illogicist has the most unatmospheric atmosphere that any death metal band has ever had, and they also in the camp of the lesser known bands.
Archons is something that goes high above the generic death metal while they are totally unknown to most diggers. Same goes for their antecedent band Descend Into Nothingness.
For me, Martyr are always the mother of technical death metal with a feeling, not just some wankery as most of the band thinks nowadays. No wonder that it tooks them at least 4 years to make another album. (Well, 3 if we cut the time of tours.)
Sleep Terror - seriously, this is even in question?
First Fragment has a vibe when you listen to their EP. They do create some amazing stuff, even though some people would classify them as just pure brutal technical death metal. For instance, check the title track of the album.
Cerebrum are also a great yet lesser known band.
If you dig tech dm most of the list probably won't be an absolute surprise for you, but for most people it is.
I'll also add maybe Blotted Science.
Sorry guys, I do forgot some things - thanks for the heads up on all of this.

They aren't. He asked for unusual death metal and to me The Chasm have always had a weird atmosphere about them and Convulse... Well I guess that's just me promoting an awesome death metal band.
