Devin Townsend interview (11/2011)

With: Devin Townsend
Conducted by: Baz Anderson (in person)
Published: 17.11.2011

Band profile:

Devin Townsend

Ahead of one of Devin's special acoustic shows, we entered his dressing room to find him attaching the last string to his guitar. A slightly ill Devin still enthusiastically greeted us and made us feel welcome. Watch the video below to see what Devin has in mind for blimps, Ziltoid, canaries, a great white shark, a castle and marshmallows.

00:06 | How are you doing?
00:19 | You did the four shows in London of the four last albums, how was that?
01:18 | Why did you pick London?
02:04 | You're doing an acoustic show tonight; why?
04:00 | In 2007 you said you would stop touring and doing things in public; what changed your mind?
06:24 | Are you sick of people asking about Strapping Young Lad?
08:46 | When you put an end to Strapping Young Lad you said you didn't want the pressure of being this "metal persona"...
09:55 | Are you surprised at how popular the whole Ziltoid thing became?
11:38 | Do you have favourite or least favourite albums you have put out in the past?
14:51 | On the Wikipedia page it says you created Strapping Young Lad to vent your anger at what you saw in the music industry; what did you see?
18:38 | How many albums are you going to be working on after this?
19:36 | Looking forward five or ten years, do you have any ambitions outside of music? Where do you see yourself?
20:04 | Last words for the people of Metal Storm.

A review of the show can be found here.

Thanks to Devin for his time.
Conducted and edited by Barry Anderson.
Recorded by Ellen Stubbings.

I always love how honest he is. If only more musicians had a similar attitude about music as he does. Very inspirational. ^-^

I agree, watching that made me wish that more people, musicians or not, had that kinda attitude. Heavy Devy is as real as they come.

Great interview! Dev is such a genuine guy who does everything from the heart, I really applaud that in this day and age. Looking forward to G H O S T 2, Ziltoid 2 & especially Epicloud. I already booked tickets for 'The Retinal Circus' gig next year at the London Roundhouse which promises to be 'The Most Definitive Dev Show To Date' - Can Not Wait!
