Fade To Black
Rolling Stone released an updated list of their greatest guitarists of all time, here.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-guitarists-20111123

IMO this is mush better than the previous list seeing that they included Dimebag Darrel (92) this time. I also realize that Rolling Stone isn't to popular in these parts but i thought it make for some interesting discussion. Also i noticed Kirk Hammett wasn't on the list which is bullshit considering he was one of the people who contributed to the list, and both James Hetfield(87) and Lou "Fucking" Reed (81) are on it. Which after Lulu i thought would be reasons to exclude those two as well. Dave Mustaine was also a contributor and was also left off the list.

Other notable guitarists That are on metal storm. Alex Lifeson "Rush" (98), Joe Perry "Aroesmith" (84), Slash (65), Robert Fripp "king Crimson" (62), Richie Blackmore (50),
Tom Morello"RATM" (40), Randy Rhoads "Ozzy Osbourne" (36),Tony Iommi (25) (Write Up by Brett Hinds of Mastodon), Angus Young "AC/DC" (24), Frank Zappa (22), Eddie Van Halen (7), Jimmy Page (3).

Top 10 looks quite decent to me. Is there list version of this? Little hard to browse... I was looking Paco De Lucia and Steve Hackett. I think Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin should be somewhere in that list too. About AC/DC.... I personally rate Malcolm higher than Angus.

The 2003 you see is how many times the article has been tweeted.

Didn't even notice that. I meant outside souces that made it easier to view the list instead of the slide by slide that Rolling Stone did.

Again with this lists.. how do they deside, is it influence or technical abilities, songwriting or orginality that counts? usualy this lists are based on influence it seems.

I often wonder on lists like these how they decide who goes where. They never say how the panel decided, only who was on the panel. So it's possible that the panel didn't have set rules on how they did things. One should also remember the list was composed by professional guitarists so they way they judge a guitarist and how we judge one maybe completly different.

i play guitar, i'm not professional, but being professional doesn't make them better to judge a guitarplayer better than any other guitarplayer IMO. anyway.. the lists has to be based on influence and songwriting abilities, because there are hundreds of unknown not proffesional players on Youtube that plays the hell out of Tommi iommi, sitting in their rooms wancking the hell out of their guitars, but moast of them not even going to get close to what tommi iommi or any other on that list when it comes to influence and songwriting.

Who?

I assume he's referencing the RS article that incorrectly referred to Iommi as Tommi.

The Rolling stones never had 100 guitarists, they had one dude who played for a 100 years.
Anyway the mag in Rolling Stone and the band is Rolling Stones. They usually have crappy lists anyway, I never bother with these.
