A band truly leading the way in modern black metal with the godlike masterpiece that is 'Kenose', these have become a personal fave of mine.

Shrouded in mystery, they used to play a more typical (but very good) raw sounding black metal but 'Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice' saw the progression on to a more modern, intelligent form. They are perhaps most famous for their lyrical content which is concerned with satanism on a metaphysical level. You have to see and hear the lyrics for yourself to gauge why they're so phenominal.

Probably my fave black metal band really.

Why the hell would I quote from that film?
If he know the meaning of inconceiable than I am puzzled as to why he would quote that line.

Well, you've ugh, obviously never seen the movie, man! Three men kidnap this princess and the ''brains'' of the group keeps saying ''Inconceivable!'' and the Spanish Dude takes note of it.

i.e. Spanish Dude ''There's a ship behind us''
Brains ''Inconceivable''

Spanish Dude ''He's climbing the rope''
Brains ''Inconceivable!''

At which point Spanish Dude says ''You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.''

Hello, my name is El Duderino. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

Inconceivably though, it's gone way off topic.

Along with The Work Which Transforms God it was my first major foray into modern extreme black metal. I haven't looked back ever since. Still DsO's best release I'd say.

I was never a fan of the old kvlt BM with some exceptions , modern BM just has much more into it as it is probably the most varied genre giving us bands like DsO , A Forest of Stars , Alcest , WitTR and many many more and all of the mentioned bands had a major impact on the scene
will surely check out the rest of the discography

I've just heard the new album for a first time. I must say, my reaction is similar to my reaction to Fas. It is a bit more disorganised, an adequate application of the term "organised chaos". It definitely needs more than a few repeats to sink in. But the fact is, that so far, the thing that impressed me the most is the small variation in the drums, a few parts that resemble the Blut Aus Nord drum patterns used mostly in The Work Which Transforms God. Anyway, the first impression was positive of course, but a longer album would be more than welcome to be honest.

It's odd, I found the new one to be very digestible, quite an easy listen - a way off from FAS that's for sure. Most people seem to disagree though. It feels very much like an album with 11 (or is it 10?) songs on, not a monolithic piece of all encompassing music. It's not a bad thing though, I personally regard FAS as too dense for it's own good.

I agree with you.
It's an extremely easy album to get into when you compare it to their newer era stuff. As for the 10 songs. I wonder how it sounds on the release proper. Cause now the promo is cut up into bits and it sounds that it would flow much more easily if there are no skips in between tracks. Btw, am I the only one that hears some post rock and post metal influences seeping through in this one.
Very good album but not as surprising as I thought it would be. For the first time since Si Monumentum Si Circumspice there's some stagnation.

Uhmm.... I'm on my first spin and while it is way too soon to make any definite decisions, it sounds like pure wankery to me. Ok, that's slightly exaggerated, but it doesn't impress so far.

Where is the relentless viciousness of Kenose?!

Never been the big fan of this band, I probably like Fas... the most, simply because of the complexity. I am not in general a fan of wankery but I can enjoy some good masturbation from time to time and Fas offers just that (that's also the reason why my absolute favorite from Mars Volta is Bedlam...). I haven't formed any definite opinion about the latest release. The last song gets my romantic muscle tingling, though. Nothing special but the melody in that song is beautiful as fuck.

Peste Noire and Nuit Noire are my absolute favorites from France. Maybe if Deathspell Omega changed their names to Malédiction Noire, I could appreciate them more.

The reason for my post is simply to ruminate one the idea that there's a difference between (good) wankery and (bad) wankery. Never thought of that before...

You only have to look at his power electronics side project Nicole 12 to know the guy is into some questionable stuff. I haven't read much of his lyrics from that project but a lot of it is pretty blazen and graphic but apparently (according to some) it's more in a repentant kind of way. I dunno, someone else can do the research. I found him to be overrated as a musician anyway, the music of Nicole 12 is rather average musically as PE goes, as is most of his other stuff outside of the decent vocal work for DsO.

He has is own porn mag/film company or something too. Something along those lines anyway.
