Here's the deal, what metal band music evoke your feeling of masculine Manliness ?. I feel that it needs steadfast-stand in their music, less emotional, no depression, way more macho-extreme, no happy high epic, of course female fronted no room here, not too boring repetitive, lyric is manly way (of course a lot bands approve this point),...so power metal cant meet, Wintersun no, Manowar no, Slayer a bit boring, heavy metal too loud I cant pick one among them (just personally), black metal too extreme cold and most about religion (still personally), death metal I dont know much so please give me your choice, metalcore way too youthful rebel too noisy but I choose old Inflames even the new one also seems very manly... FInally I choose out bands of Manliness evoking the TOUGH way is Metallica (both music and lyric met), Anaal Nathrakh (music), Setherial (music), Inflames, Soilwork.
Best for me Macho Manliness band is Metallica (music and lyric approved). What about your choice ? based on your preference (lyric, music, or simply personal)
I don't really care much for "manliness", I freely admit that I prefer androgyny to masculinity. You know, spiky pink hair, eyeliner all that great Japanese stuff. I would also argue that it takes a real man to dress up as a woman, so by that logic, Versailles are the manliest band I know. Damn, they look cool.
I enjoy bands that go out of their way to uphold a macho image as much as I do bands that seek to uphold and weave a National Socialist ideology through their music...that is, not in the slightest.
I disagree whole heartedly with the proposed definition of 'manliness,' what it is to be a man, as per the original post. That a qualifier for manhood is "less emotional" I find absurd.
Thrash as a genre, more than others. Early Kreator especially!
Of course Motorhead and much of the NWOBHM stuff, and then with American thrash: Exodus and Overkill and other fast, intense, no bullshit type of bands.
Whenever someone says "manly", "homoerotic" is the first word to come my mind... So yes, Manowar indeed. Hell, you can't even spell Manowar without MAN...
Gotta be a band like Pantera / Motorhead / Manowar.. the ones who go overboard on manliness :L

In terms of unga-bunga, beat your chest sort of manliness, I would think bands like Pantera or Manowar (nothing against those bands, especially Pantera, Manowar on the other hand can ladle the cheese on a bit too heavy sometimes).
However by my standards of what makes a man, Motorhead are the manliest; or rather Lemmy because really he is Motorhead and a guy who keeps on doing what he wants when he wants to do it and making kickass music. Although I've heard he claims quite adamantly that Motorhead are NOT a metal band. ...Either way they rock.
For me, it's Amon Amarth. Johan is just the manliest man in my encyclopedia of manly man. Beer & viking krieg, hell yea.
---- You think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it. Molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was a man. But it was nothing to me but blinding.
IMO brutal death metal and thrash metal are best of genre of manliness evoking. before I like some good epic and blast stuff but now prefer more straight stuff like brutal death and thrash. Death metal is met too but a bit too deep and full varied in lyrics.
