Written by The Turbanator on 03.01.2012 at 06:36 Surprised that no one mentioned Terra Tenebrosa (even I forgot).
I don't really see any black metal in their debut. :/ More like post-rock/metal.

That description sounds kind of misleading to me. I stand by Joe's and Marshall labels and just say ambient/experimental metal. There's a slight hint at Black metal and even drone too imo.

Yah Terra Tenebrosa is definitely entrenched in "huh?" and "yikes!". I didn't get any post-leanings myself.

Definitely not post rock-ish at all. It has more black element than post. But I agree with Mr Doctor. Ambient/experimental BM is what I think they are.

Surprised that no one mentioned Terra Tenebrosa (even I forgot). Their debut album "The Tunnels" is fucking amazing.
Thanks for the tip, I am going to check this release out (as well as Troy's Neige review).

After two tracks this morning, you described my initial review sans "WTF?"

I still fail to see any black metal elements at all. I can get on board with ambient and drone, but not black.

I thought Terra Tenebrosa was sludgy more than anything. Experimental for sure, in that noise/drone/ambientish way, but rooted in (atmospheric) sludge for the metal meat'n'potatoes of it.
I liked The Desanctification best last year. It wasn't very BM though, I guess. An Autumn For Crippled Children and Deafheaven were the most pleasant listens of that kind of modern BM, whereas Taake was really solid if unsurprising traditional BM.

Yeah but outside of that, the album doesn't give any surprises. Not like I care though, the album is well performed and the music is well written so I still enjoy it a lot That song for example, I don't love it just because of the banjo, the entire song has a really good sense of melody, the beginning is pretty neat.

I've forgot to mention the (now based in London) Necrosadist's full-length, Abstract Satan, released in November of 2011. It's a perfect example of audial filth and malevolence, a relentless piece of work. You can listen to two tracks, "Rising From The Earth" and "From The Virulent Entrails Of The Virus Christ" here: http://snd.sc/uL7XhK

If Necros Christos is considered Black Metal then it's definitely one of the best. The vocals are amazing!

Nah, I don't hear any Black in their latest or their discography at all. It's just death metal that flirts with doom every now and then.

No because I read in M/A that their genre is Death/Black. And I'm really bad at differentiating black/death sometimes.

MA and its classification is weird to say the least. I can udnerstand people calling it doom death (NOT death doom though) because fo the slight doom influences in their music but totally not black death since there is totally no black in there.

I honestly hate MA, 90% of the time its unaccurate and a mess, I avoid it like the plague.

At times it is handy. When it comes to band members and such stuff. Even the discographies tend to be full of mistakes when ti comes to demos of bands and live recordings. Way too many bootlegs or toher sort of unofficial releases are mentioned. Just take a look at Metallica's profile there.

yeah, the only time I use it when looking for info on underground bands, or info for edits/additions here, backed my reliable official info of course .

I've been blown away by Saille - Irreversible Decay. It's their debut, they're a new band from Belgium with all highly experienced players.
Check out some awesome clips on their website http://www.saille.be/

Yeah I guess they are. What's the difference if a band is classified "death doom" or "doom death"?
