As for Burzum it's always been hard for me to seperate the art from the artist. Varg's past actions and philosophies bother me enough to make it hard for me to really objectively judge his music. Which sucks. But yeah so far my vote for numero uno is Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestial Lineage. Those dudes manage to evoke some serious atmospheric shit and at the same time melt my face off.  Oh, and I'm going to see into the future on this one and say that in 2013 Watain's next album (if they continue to follow the three year rule) will be the best Black Metal release.

I am disappointed that was the ONLY mention of some stellar releases like Shining and Negative Plane. Here are a few of my 2011 most listened to in no particular order, not limiting myself to full albums: Negative Plane - Stain Glass Reflections Shining - VII Cultes des Ghoules - Spectres Over Transylvania EP Teitanblood - Purging Tounges EP Peste Noire - L'Ordure à l'état Pur Dragged Into Sunlight - (live album) Throne of Katarsis - Ved Graven Lake of Blood - As Time and Tide Erodes Stone Sarke - Oldarhian Horna - EP Glorior Belli - Great Southern Darkness Craft - Void Blut aus Nord - 777 sects, not so much the sequel.. Avichi - Devil's Fractal Aosoth - III Anaal Nathrakh - Passion Absu - Abzu Leviathan - True Traitor, True Whorror Bahrrecht - Nuit de Neige Oranssi Pazuzu - Kosmonument Svartsyn Taake Burzum Corpus Christii Honorable Mention: Mitochondrion - Parasignosis This chaotic death metal from Canada evokes such an intense and frightening atmosphere I consider it part black metal for that aspect alone. I'm still trying to penetrate into some 2011 releases from these bands as well: Alghazanth, Alrakis, Blaze of Perdition, Chaos Moon, Falkenbach, Hat, Helheim, pergale
