Testament Albums - Top To Bottom

Testament. Perhaps one of the most prolific, great-sounding and legendary thrash metal bands. Underrated not to go along with the Big 4 instead of the overrated Anthrax, but one can also thank the Gods that Testament didn't go down that road, for we knew for sure the fate of Big 4 bands was either selling out or failing to achieve larger than life expectations.

1. Testament - The New Order
Obvious masterpiece.
2. Testament - The Legacy
Thrash masterpiece, but disconnected from their later works.
3. Testament - Low
It's their best '90s work. And it slays.
4. Testament - Dark Roots Of Earth
WOW. Just wow. Melody, thrash, consistency, I believe this album has it all. And yes, it's underrated, as much acclaim as it had.
5. Testament - Practice What You Preach
The last album where sound safety saved them. Pretty kickass.
6. Testament - The Formation Of Damnation
And you thought a band couldn't make such an awesome comeback.
7. Testament - The Gathering
Good assortment of riffs and interesting moments, but lots of wasted potential.
8. Testament - The Ritual
Ahh, if only this was done more professionally... just that damn bad flow kills the song. Trust me, if you hear a track each day, it's great. If you hear it all at once, you might just fuck a cow.
9. Testament - Demonic
Eh, quit all the hate. Yes, the last half of the album is as relevant to me as a neighbor's pair of slippers, but what the hell, it's not THAT bad.
10. Testament - Souls Of Black
Pshh. Now I really can't say a thing. Strip the title track and ballad and you've got the most boring album in thrash history.

Low is much better, and The Ritual is even better.

Grumpy Old Fuck
Their obvious masterpiece is The Legacy.
The New Order is only half good, way too much filler on that one to be considered a masterpiece But it's still superior to anything that came after.

I agree with that on top to bottom, to be honest, merely the fact that this list is more favoritism than facts.. for facts I'd really say MS ratings sum it up (although there's underrating on Low and Dark Roots's side)

Underrated by the elite, for sure. I mean, all the recognition the 'mainstream metalheads' gave it, but honest to God, there's just something wrong with Big 4 albums selling way more than Dark Roots would do. For example, take TH1RT3EN's sales compared.. that's one worse record; despite the fact both bands are technically in the same competition market. I wouldn't be half sad if Dark Roots sold more; which it should have, considering Nuclear Blast is behind them and that it's a great record (according to my taste).

And yeah, Testament and old-school thrash records are getting pretty a lot more criticism than they should by the 'metal elite'. It's a 'let's click play and start comparing' instead of finding the joy of records anymore, y'know.

EDIT: Besides it's way too unfair to have The Gathering with 0.8 more rating points here than Dark Roots :^)
