Another year passes, another Burzum album is released. Since Varg Vikernes, the most controversial Norwegian figure, has been released on probation from jail, he managed to put a new album every year and 2012, the year when the Mayan "apocalypse" is supposed to take place, is no exception. I do not know what Varg has been doing in jail. For 11 years he hasn't released a new record and in 2010 we get Belus and one year later Fallen. What can we say about Umskiptar? A new direction? Maybe, but not quite. Is it good or not? Depends on the individual. Since this is my own review I have to admit that when I listened to it first, I wasn't impressed but after a couple of auditions, I get that even Varg tries to take a step towards innovation. Love the artwork...................... No idea for the music. But if Fallen was a step (small but significant) in the right direction compared to Belus... Hopefully he will improve again.

Looking forward, doesn't matter if Belus or Fallen style, both a good... a Fallen style with 2 or 3 long atmospheric tracks like on Belus would be best. An album a year is too much... but he doesn't tour and probably lives out of his music and his writings, so it's a bit logical I guess.

Not really sure how I feel about this one. On one hand there were elements on Fallen that I really liked, but on the other hand all of his post-prison work has been a far cry from his earlier material. Not really gonna get myself too excited for this.

He did have a lot of time to write/think/plan in jail, still this is a bit too fast in my opinion. I get the feeling the records are rushed. Suppose he's cashing in to pay for his church burnings.

Just saying. Unless you tried that already and didn't like it...

Leaks just don't stream (unless the label/band decides to stream it and release it earlier than initially planned), so you aren't going to get any zines or Bandcamp/SoundCloud/etc. links that have more than a few previews or whatever. In any case, I'm still withholding. But the day this thing's officially released and I find out it's the same shit I listened to a month prior... I don't even know.
