Let's not forget heavy metal (sped up doom), gothic metal (soft doom) and stoner/sludge (THC-infused doom).
You forgot Experimental/Avant Garde (LSD-infused doom) and Alternative metal (cool kidz doom)...

I'm disappointed that Opeth did not get nominated at all. Heritage was such a refreshing change, and such a unique album.

Heritage was such a refreshing change
that I can understand.
But this:

, and such a unique album.
Nothing unique about it at all when all the music on there was nicked or heavily inspired by the progrock bands of the 60s and 70s.

And sounded like the leftover material that didn't make it onto Damnation.

Damn, is there always this much anal impairment at award season? Maybe it would be better to just have write in's...
from people not spelling them properly (3 different Lulus in bigest letdown...
Just like you misspell "bigest"?
Exactly.
What happens if there's a draw? Are there 2 winners or is there some kind of tie breaker?

Biggest letdown----No! Biggest surprise--Uhm, maybe( but imo naaah!) it can be categorized in prog. slab but I must tell you bro...it won't be on a winning side. Year 2011 has kicked in some of the biggest prog. heavy outputs and I don't think Opeth gonna swap any awards from MS podium. Bad luck.

Now that I'v listened to both albums with the Espenæs sisters competing in the same catagory, I have a declaration:
If Midnattsol don't beat Leaves' Eyes, I'll eat both cds.

Oh, and Omit would go in normal doom, right?
Oh, it wasn't in the nom. circles, but seeing how it isn't extreme doom, I'd say it would be safe to put it in normal doom.

These MS awards have successfully plunged me back into metal, more or less. The majority of my interests are from the Avantgarde and Djent section which admittedly are more diversified and less primal areas of the genre. Nevertheless, it's good to have some heavy back in the diet.
Absolutely stunned with Animals as Leaders, Thy Catafalque and Vildhjarta.
Good to be back! Temporarily at least

You fail sarcasm forever*
fix'd
I just consider the new Anthrax album to be their best since Among the Living. It's got good ratings in websites like RYM or M-A (here too? Don't know if 7.8 is considered 'good' here. It should be) and/or magazines (but then again, new Morbid Angel was the album of the month in Metal Hammer, so it doesn't really matter).
And you pull out the worst (not bad though) song of this album and try to imply that it lacks atmosphere and it's monotonous, while new Skeletonwitch or SSS are not. Wow.
Opinions differ, I was just surprisded by Anthrax's absence. Not surprised by lack of Megadave, unfortunately :e
(and don't get me wrong, I liked new Skeletonwitch or SSS but not as much as you-know-what).
LOVE AND PEACE.

You can't close a tag without opening it.
But that's how the internet meme works, you moron.
Well, I don't care. It's also so old and dull, it just... hurts to see it. You could've at least styled it with arrow brackets like in HTML. But generally, it's never a good idea to blatantly shout out "I'M SARCASTIC LOL WARCRAFT" so yeah.

I've checked the stuff of the Symphonic Metal but none of them has convinced me. I was about to not to vote there, but when I recently found the new Tjodalv's (Susperia, ex-Dimmu) project, Gromth, I found my answer XD Nice orchestral Extreme Metal, better than the overrated (under my point of view) new one of SepticFlesh.

It was just to make sure the sarcasm was understood, as text can often be interpreted the wrong way. And I don't really care what's hot or not on the internet. I mostly end up writting as if I was having a conversation so I'm not gonna break my head to figure out what would look good and be a pleasure to see for everyone else. I'm just gonna make sure my thoughts are conveyed correctly.

If by chance the voter who wrote in Dark Tranquillity's We Are the Void for Melodeath happens upon this post, you should re-do your vote because that album was released in 2010 and this is the 2011 MS Awards...
