Pretty sure he meant "suicide/death" metal, "suicide/death" being a reference to lyrical content (in other words, depressive), not death metal as in death growls, blast beats and gore. Supposively he's trying to get away from the Shock Rock label and write music more like what he liked to listen to when he was growing up.
