If you haven't noticed by now, France is fast becoming a hot-spot for experimental black metal. Over the past 10 years the ears of several unsuspecting victims have been all but abrogated by the likes of Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, S.V.E.S.T., Diapsiquir, Peste Noire... and now, Reverence.

Finally, Reverence have delivered the album they always had in them. A richly veiled exercise of varied, deeply textured, winding and intelligent modern black metal, deriving influence from contemporaries Deathspell Omega and Blut Aus Nord but ultimately creating something all their own.

At this moment in time Reverence truly embody and exemplify the sound of French black metal.

Whoa, this is pretty damn good so far... hugely impressive sound. Maybe a bit Deathspell Omega-ish perhaps but there's some nice twists in their approach, I'm getting a definite Blut aus Nord vibe at times too. Great, massive sound.

Probably the best black metal related thing I've heard this year.

As much as I love this I suspect it's just keeping the seat warm for either Meads or BaN. We shall see.

The upcoming Esoterica album might be a contender also but this will surely end up high on any list I'll be making

...Meads or BaN.

I highly doubt either will surpass this for me. BaN's two from last year were definitely good but assuming the finale is anything like the first two, I won't even regard it as a top 10 release.

It's pretty rare for me to like BM but I actually like this so far

It's especially weird for me to like something that Troy raves about.

This afternoon I gave it a second listen and they already convinced me. It's impressive how these guys handle the dissonance.

It just does, I dunno. I picked "The Descent", "Cold Room" and "Those Who Believed". Maybe it's the vocals.

has Ponderer taken possession of Teamster's body?

Like Enslaved? wtf? I have heard a lot of weird comparison concerning bands in the past but none as weird as this one.

Yep, I'm afraid Enslaved never crossed my mind. Deathspell, Glorior Belli, Blut aus Nord, but never Enslaved.

C'mon, not at all? The guitar framework or vocals? Not the song structures themselves, they have much more atmosphere than Enslaved

If you can't find it on the Candlelight website, I'm pretty sure it's being sold via Amazon, eBay, and iTunes.

C'mon, not at all?

I found about 0% in common between Reverence and Enslaved. Aside from the fact both bands can be filed under black metal.

Nah, I tried a few times, but I just couldn't get into it. Bits and pieces stuck with me, but nothing else. I'm rarely into this kind of black metal, so it should come as no surprise.

And to tea[m]ster: Enslaved? WTF? Sorry to keep rubbing it in, but wow.
