The word gen means "illusion" or "apparition." In India, a man who uses conjury is called a genjutsushi ["a master of illusion technique"]. Everything in this world is but a marionette show. Thus we use the word gen.

I haven't listened to like, any pure thrash albums this year, but I do still listen to thrash hybrids...

Aura Noir and Desaster are definitely the strongest releases in that genre thus far in my opinion (for black/thrash), although The Wretched End released quite a nice death thrash album. You can't go wrong with Impiety's black/death/thrash melting pot either.

Aura Noir - Out to Die: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoAhffdGCfQ
Desaster - The Arts of Destruction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3S82noMBYk
The Wretched End - Inroads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0gfO2BuEVw
Impiety - Ravage & Conquer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ATCa-y2SQk

I'll second Troy with Aura Noir, Desaster and Impiety.
I don't think I heard pure thrash either from 2012.
Wait, Overkill is good, Phantom Antichrist will be good (only listened to the title song) Suicidal Angels-Bloodbath is ok, but nothing special. That's it.

Might as well add Keltzer's latest, Endzeit Metropolis, to the list of black/thrash hybrids for 2012.

@Silentscream: Nice song man ! im gonna check this band out! thx

and Silent's right, Overkill is great but I gotta say my favorite so far is Fatal Feast by Municipal Waste ! awesome work, also a bit
thrashier than the usual municipal waste, less punk influence it seems, its still there but lighter.

I didn't really like it tbh, like you said, it seems they've "grown up"??

Idk, I just think the album is mediocre, low 7 stuff.

this album was more tongue-and-cheek than their last, closer to their earlier pair. much like WIITR after Black Cascade, course-corrected.

it's cross-over thrash, more about attitude and energy. either you like it or you don't.

and 7 is good, not mediocre... mediocre is a full point lower. but hey, most the site overrate everything by a point to a point and a half.

low 7 is just barely good which is what I find that album to be, I'll stick to Hazardous Mutation.

I usually try my best not to overate stuff, i've never given a 10 out, a few 1's though.

And I've been listening to an album by a group called "Bloodshot Dawn" lately, a mix of Thrash and Melodic Death, its sounding good:

No... have a look at the rating system. Low 7 is good, high 6 is barely good.

I often give out 7s knowing to me they're closer to 6.5s though. I wouldn't call 6.5 good. We really need .5 increments on here.

6.5 I would call barely good, not good. But I agree that we really need .5 increments on MS

I round up or down depending on how I feel about the album. There are times when something doesn't quite deserve a 9 but 8 feels too low, and vice versa. I could cut about 50 of my 10s if I could give them 9.5.

I enjoyed their latest album. You're right about it not being as fun as some of their previous stuff, but it still isn't overly serious. It's probably my favourite of the 2 thrash albums I've heard this year.

The other one was Exumer. Yawn...

It's not bad just like their previous album, but it simply lacks consistency and any sort of originality. A few songs stand out, and the rest is nothing special (although overall my impression is positive).

To me The Call is better than their previous. But my complaints concerning the band are the same as yours, especially regardining consistency. I think their latest is a step towards more of a consistency, but they are going in the good direction, one would think.

Anyone heard of the Swedish thrash band "Zombiekrig"? The following track is from their upcoming release "Den Vänstra Stigens Ljus".
I found the album has a bit of a Kvelertak vibe about it.

This one's a bit 'standard thrash' for the first 2 and a half minutes, but there's a nice change-up after that:

I haven't heard it but in all likelihood The Electric Age is better than The Fatal Feast. Well, if it keeps up the quality level Ironbound had then it is.

Overkill is at Heavy T.O. this year... Hopefully I win the damn contest

The Electric Age is definately a heavy hitter. Comparing it to The Fatal Feast is almost unfair, though. It's good in it's own league, and likely will be the best Crossover album this year.
