Thread title.

I'm looking to expand my musical tastes into the unexplored (for me) territory of doom and black metal. The closest thing to doom that I listen to is Woods of Ypres and I listen to zero true black metal (Although, I found http://www.invisibleoranges.com/2012/04/io-exclusive-track-stream-dawnbringers-vii/ which I like) I also accept other suggestions (different genres) of more obscure bands that should be listened to, so suggest away, but first I have a few things I want specifically:

-Modern (Recent releases I may have missed perhaps? I dont want anything too old - I have trouble with listening to old black/doom metal because I cant tell songs apart)
-Good Production (Not mandatory, but it's a huge plus to me)

With my specifications I'm sure I cut out a whole bunch of stuff, but I'm pretty picky with the two subgenres and I cant help it. Anyways, thanks.
(There was some new album by a German (I think) guy with the album art being a tree or something... It's recent within the last year - I'm trying to remember who it was)

I'd be happy to give you some suggestions but there are so many bands in those two genres I wouldn't know where to start. What kind of doom are you looking for? Classic stoner doom (heavy slow rock sound) or more funeral doom (symphonic, dark, brooding sound)? Are you looking for more slow, dark, atmospheric black metal, or something fast paced and catchy? What kind of genres do you normally listen to? Would you be open to bands who mix these two genres with other genres of metal or are you specifically looking for straight up cookie cutter bands in this genre? Give me a little more info and I'd be glad to try and narrow it down to a few good bands that are easy to digest for someone new to these genres.

That would be Lantlôs - Agape: not my favorite style black metal but if I need to make a choice I prefer .Neon from 2010

As for what I mostly listen to: Death Metal, Melodeath, Techdeath, some Deathcore, some Metalcore, prog metal, some Djent, etc. Any bands that mix genres tend to be a plus to me because it leads to more interesting music, but I can deal with bands who only make one style.

You might also like the Shoegaze stuff, like Deafheaven and Alcest or even WITTR, I found those easy to get into as well

Seeing how neither Agalloch nor Oak Pantheon embody the "true" essence of black metal, it seems rather odd to suggest either as a place to start for someone looking to get into more "true" black metal.

What you'd usually recommend is the Peaceville trilogy (obviously), Burzum (pre-prison releases), and possibly even black metal-era Behemoth. Those are essentially the "easiest" rawer black metal releases to get into, not to mention Gorgoroth's back catalog, Satyricon's pre-2000 works, and then some "warmer" stuff like Judas Iscariot. Not to mention Marduk and Mayhem... The early Norwegian, Finnish, and American scenes are excellent places to start for traditional black metal.

Then of course you get into some more melodic hybrid stuff (Dissection, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir) if the raw stuff is too much to jump into. Or even just throw Bathory into the mix as a starting point. Or other hybrid stuff like Anaal Nathrakh or Impaled Nazarene. And then anything "weird" from France and all the cosmic shit like Darkspace/Skullreader.

Drudkh was one of the black metal bands I got into very easily. Start with Autumn Aurora. Very, very atmospheric.

Nope, That won't work, as it would require some kind of effort. Music has become so accesible that even for more "undeground" styles, people forgot the thrill of the chase.

I don't think Anaal Nathrakh or Impaled Nazarene are so easy to get into, especially Anaal Nathrakh.

from Sweden: Dark Fortress, Siebenburgen, Naglfar or more black/death Sacramentum, Unanimated, Necrophobic
from Norway: Ancient, Old Man's Child, Keep Of Kalessin, Vreid
from the Netherlands: Slechtvalk, Carach Angren (more sympho)
from Belgium: Axamenta, Saille (more sympho)
and so on...all easily to get into

I just find that it's the easiest foprm to get into, and it's what I started with.

I also agree that it's all about "The Thrill of the chase"

I love discovering new bands via MS or YT or whatever.

Let me know if you like any of these styles and I can suggest some more. Most of these bands are easy to listen to for someone new to these genres.

- You may like something like Sunn O))), which is a drone/doom band that mixes some black metal elements.

I like Agalloch and Oak Pantheon is okay (although I may have to get used to the vocals). I also checked out the other things you listed and out of those I like Alcest.

Drudkh was one of the black metal bands I got into very easily. Start with Autumn Aurora. Very, very atmospheric.

They're a bit extreme for my usual tastes, but I liked the sound. Especially Between Shit and Piss and More Fire Than Blood.

Electric Wizard was instantly catchy. I like that.
Sun O))) sounded pretty good. Definitely could hear the drone aspect.
Shape of Despair was pretty good. Like Sun O))), the sound may have to grow on me a bit.
Nalfgar was good. I was turned off a bit at the start of the song but it progressed into something pretty catchy.
Agathodaimon definitely had good production. Nothing stood out, but it wasnt bad.
Obtained Enslavement was melodic - I've just gotta learn how to tune my ear for this stuff. Probably similar with how I got into metal early on through easing myself into more extreme music.

Hopefully some of my responses help direct towards what else I may like. I'm still open to similar sounds of those which did not catch me right away, so continue

Conisdering production is a big deal to you, I would advise you to stay well away from Transilvanian Hunger. If you're not a fan of that raw black metal sound then it probably won't be to your taste. Maybe try 'At The Heart Of Winter' by Immortal?

I highly recommend you try Akercocke. They play this sort of very sinister yet modern accessible blackened death metal with prog elements.
