What do you do with a Tool? For sake of metaphor let's be more specific; what does one do with, say, a wrench? Well you fasten things with it, make sure all those nuts and bolts are surely fixed in position. And what's the purpose of this? Obviously to make whatever these nuts and bolts are a part of work at an optimal and functional state. The debut collaborative effort of supergroup Soen is something which does just that.

The vocal is very weak i guess despite of trying to sing like mikael akerfeldt

He sounds more like an Åkerfeldted Maynard.

Can't deny their musicianship. as for originality...it's their debut album and IMO they shouldn't get bashed for sounding like Tool, 'cause it takes too much effort to exactly sound like them.
I'm waiting for their next material since they seem to have a potential.

This are very well done, in every way, but it's TOOL-metal,nothing else. I think no band should emulate such a distinctive sound to this degree, it makes them but very skilled copycats. Still it is very listenable, I can't argue. I agree on the above on the Åkerfeldt comparison. To me he has an Åkerfeldt or Renkse voice ( typical swedish voice!) trying and accomplishing, to sing like Maynard. The main difference is, that like the two swedes he sings in the same mid-range constantly, whilst Maynard challenges his chords a lot more.

Well, since Tool most likely won't create a new album I welcome a band like this with open arms. Superb sounding, like Tool but even better.

It's totally not a bad album, but what annoys the most about their songs is that they are started out very well with awesome intros but then they somehow are left unfinished without reaching somewhere. And the vocals are the weakest side of the album.

I postponed listening to this for long since I supposed any band trying to sound like tool will not succeed and will sound awefull in comparison. On contrary, this is actually very good. I don't have problem with the fact that it's not original. More bands need to copy Tool's sound as they are criminally not enough copped. The only major complain is that vocals are considerably weaker than those of Keenan. In fact they sound more like a Akerfeldt copy more than anything else and are too soft for the music.

its more like Maynard than Akerfeldt to me or maybe cause they look like Tool very much and surly he's not as good as those vocals but i think it fits their music

Have you ever heard of Cire? I think they also copied off of Tool, but the band is more original than Soen. The vocalist is actually kind of unique. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsar3vnN_II

As for Cognitive, it's a good album but nothing more. They have a few bangers in there, though.

That's not really a problem for me. I've tried to listen to Tool's albums several times, but basically nothing sticks. Very boring stuff for me.

This one though, while similar, was extremely enjoyable. It felt like songs.

You should consider Cire, The Mayan Factor, Eden Circus, Rishloo, Karnivool, etc. then. All of these bands play something a little more song-like in quality than Tool, and they play better music than Soen.
