what do you all think about these two taboo subjects? in sweden, prostitution is illegal. i think this is wrong. i want a more liberal society. supply and demand should be put to use. people who are against prostitution always gives the argument "the girls are being used by the men". well, thats the same thing as the guy working at mc donalds is being used, coz its a shitty job with low wage. but what if the girl chooses to be a prostitute. then why is it wrong?
the same with pornography. people say "men learn to see women as objects". well, i admit that i've watched porn, but that doesnt make me look at women as objects. its still supply and demand. people are willing to expose themselves on the camera, and people are willing to pay to see the movies.

as long as no one gets hurt, it should be legal

I don't mind pornography, i mean it cannot give you AIDS and stuff, but prostitution, it's too dangerous for both, seller and buyer.
So i say YES! pornography and NO! prostitution.

Here's the way I see it. Yes, Prostitution is dangerous for both the client as well as the supplier, however, if the government set certain requirements for how the business is run, than I think it could be a lot more safe and enjoyable. For instance, a prostitute should have to get a weekly testing for HIV, AIDS, Herpes, as well as any other STD. They are not controlled by pimps but by a government agency, who will take tax dollars out of their job just like anything else. They should get paid by the hour instead of by commision, think about how hard it must be to stand around for 8 or twelve hours, picking up clients,(Those of the most discusting kind, mind you) and driving back after only a brief wash off. Prostitutes should only be able to work a certain amount of hours per week as well. It's not human to make someone work a 70 hour week, especially in those conditions. Lastly, prostitutes should be given government provided benifits.

I also see nothing wrong with pornography, it's like Achor said, I watch it but I don't think of women as objects. As a matter of fact, I to a degree follow a code of chivalry, I have utmost respect for women. But if a woman wants to have sex on camera and make a little money off of it, that's her business, same thing goes for guys. Prostitution is the oldest job in the world, so it kind of has a tradition. If a woman is forced to be a prostitute, it's wrong, but if she does it from her own free will, it's her choice. Some people choose to become lawyers, some people choose to become prostitutes... Prostitution should be supervised. In today's world it hard to say who's doing it willingly and who's not. The poor women who have been forced to prostitution are often so scared of death that they don't tell the police about the oppression. I agree with Arian Totalis, that kind of requirements should be made before prostitution could be thought as an equal job to the "normal" ones.

Porn...it shows women as objects, gives a wrong image of sex etc etc. But do ordinary movies always give the right image of everything? Are all blondes stupid? Porn is entertainment for some people and as long as those movies are not watched as educational movies, it's fine. If one has a healthy mind, one shouldn't be harmed by those movies. But then again, some people get violent after playing videogames, so some people can start to think they can treat women as objects after watching porn. All in all, there's nothing wrong with porn as long as it doesn't include child porn. People who enjoy child porn are sick! And porn movies should have certain age limits like any other movies...

why? does having a camera in the room make a difference? otherwise its the same thing (well, apart from whos paying, the customer or the film producer, but i don't see how thats relevant).

with regards to pornography, it has major effects on society. the use of sex to sell products and overuse in TV shows creates unspoken rules as to what is socially normal. young girls see tv programmes where women sleep around and generally act like intellectually-inferior, image-conscious, promiscuous whores and see this as what is not only normal, but what is socially desirable. the approach to censorship of sexual imagery has changed drastically over the last 50 years and this shows in society.

i don't have a problem with people filiming and selling x-rated videos in small backstreet shops because this has very little effect on mainstream society. however, the extreme-overuse of sex in mainstream media is appalling.

I love porno but i don't agree with prostitution.

However prostitution should be legal as long as the prostitute is given a license for it and the license gets taken away if at a check up she is found to have AIDS.

I wouldn't say that pornography has much influence on the young girls. I do agree that music, mtv, and trends tend to give the image that girls should sleep around and dress themself as less-intelligent women etc. but well, I would say, the girls who fall for this are pretty stupid themself, so why worry about them? It is sad that a big part of the youth will be raised like this, and will probably just stay..stupid. But just imagine if, I don't know, black metal was thé trend. Then all those girls were worshipping satan and walking around as goths, so then we would complain about that.

so generally, that part is a complain about the influence of the media, not the influence of pornography.

As for prostitues. Most girls don't decide to become prostitues. It happens because they fail horribly in life. Their parents raised them wrong, or they get in touch with the wrong people(because of a lack of good care from their parents). I do think prostitution should be forbidden, since it is closely related to criminality, drugs abuse, and spreading sexual diseases.

Not a girl would say "I become a prostitue because I want to sleep with people for money". They do it because they have no other choice, so from my point of view legalising prostitution would only be a support towards those girls to become in an even worse situation. They could better search for help, and find some sense in themself. Solve their problems and live a normal life again.

But most girls have an entirely different interpretation of sex than the interpretation of most guys. Otherwise, why do you think female prostitution sell so much better than male prostitution? Or, why are females so much more popular in the pornographic business than men? Simply, because men think differently about sex than girls. Sure girls enjoy sex, but pornography exists more because of sexual lust. And guys have generally more lust for sex than girls.

Government regulated doesn't work, obviously. It sounds all very nice, to see prostitution as a legal job, but there are some big disadvantages. There will be hardly any prostitutes, because like I said, girls don't choose to become a prostitute, they grow into the culture, and so become one. When it becomes legal than the pimps will start their own illegal prostitution network, and there will be almost no interest in the legal prostitution.

Also, we pay taxes, would you like it that a part of that money goes to the controle of prostitutes for sexual diseases? or even worse, that a part of that money is invested in finding medication against the diseases they spread? Well, no thank you, I rather have that money spend in a more useful medical research. Such as curing cancer or anything like that.

This is always done for money, that young women (or even men ) forced themselves into this slavery to earn money . But with money you earn many unwanted illness.

Well, have you ever heard a girl saying "I want to become a prostitute later". Or anyone here on the forums who said that? No girl likes it to sell their own body. Maybe there are a very few prostitutes who actually chosed to become a prostitute, but most of them are all girls who failed somewhere in their life, and so ended up in the wrong culture. Prostitutes aren't happy people you know, they always had an horrible past, and because of that met the wrong people. well, you pay taxes for the police for general safety. Not just the prostitution. Prostitution spreads criminality, and other related things to that. So if the police would hunt those, then it would be good, because there would also be less criminality then. Prostitution will always be a source of sexual diseases. Remember they sleep with so many people, and even when they check them every week, it wouldn't help much. It is a well-known fact that prostitution is a cause of the spreading of sexual diseases in the western world. It wouldn't, they become illegal because prostitution isn't "just a job". The girls who get drag into it are heavily influenced by their pimps, and the pimps are definitely working illegal. Because the profit is much bigger then. Especially for such subjects as salary, how much salary does a prostitute deserve? Honestly, almost nothing. When an illegal pimp can offer higher salaries to them.

have you ever heard anyone say "i want to work in a factory when im older" or "i want to work in a shop and get treated like crap for minimum wage"? you seem to be under the impression that all prostitutes are toothless crack addicts in need of money quickly to get their next fix, or people tricked into coming to another country for a job only to be forced into prostitution. There are also girls who become call girls and get paid £100 an hour for their services. this may seem a particularly desirable job to someone who has no educational qualifications.


im generally not in favour of prostitution. i mean, i would hate for ending a night of drinking and partying with sleeping with a bunch of prostitutes to become the social norm and legalising prostitution will cause this. Hell, many british tourists go to Istanbul for this very reason. that this is the social norm there.

On the other hand, women are constantly objectified by the media and no one seems to have a big issue with that so why not take it one step furthur? im sure that with prostitution being a socially acceptable profession won't reflect badly on women and won't encourage men to view them as sex objects and almost sub-humans.
