I really like that one as well and having the box edition makes it even more beautiful but I'm not a big fan of the artwork being cut, the "frame" is quite big and takes away some of the impact since I'm pretty sure the artwork is bigger.

Isn't the actual frame "part" of the artwork as well?

Probably but it still gives the impression that the artwork might be bigger consider how some cuts are made sicne some parts do give the impression that they are just cut in half.
It just takes away the impact. I like the frame idea, but it's hella big frame.

Oh yeah I get what you mean now, and I sortof agree but I prefer Écailels over Septembre even with that. But both are pretty beast.

Calling it now, Cormorant wins. I have no idea how that Alcest cover got into the final 3, no me gusta.

I would have liked to see Leviathan there. I don't like the album, but it's a really effective cover. Focused, powerful and well made.

Hard to pick between these three, I rather like them all but am not crazy about any.

I don't know if it has been proposed yet, but we could have a Best Album Art category for the MS Awards 2012, right?
Thing is without the chance to give negative votes, the results would likely be biased towards the music and not the art itself.

We've been talking about this and it seems the general consensus is that it would just be a popular vote not based on reality (of what is a good cover and what isn't).

Which is soooo not like the actual MS Awards but still, for people who DO check out the nominees in the MS awards in order to vote for the best ones, their reward is discovering more good albums. If you'd check out the "cover" nominees though, you'd get 10 seconds of visual pleasure. So it's not very rewarding.

It's not a bad suggestion at all actually, though there's a 1001 ways for people to misuse it.

T those bitching about Full album artwork being used I have a few things to say:

1. This fun contest is there not to reward the artists behind the music but the ones behind the visual impact of the album. So, with that in mind, if the Cover is part of a bigger piece made by the artist, it makes sense to count it in.

2. Vynils are bigger then CDs and often the cover has more details. Should we eliminate Vynil cover art because it's not the most commun cover poeople can reffer to? I don't think so.

3. If i limited edition comes out with a different artwork for the same album should it count in ? Yes, since the artist made the effort of renewing his work for a handfull of fans I think it deserves recognition.
