This is a thread to ask about musicians' political views and answers others' questions about musicians political views. There can be some discussion, but this is not a place to argue politics, and so should remain respectful. Tt is a place to be educated about the musicians we listen to. So my question is, obviously Serj Tankian and Tom Morello are extreme left-wingers, but I have wanted to know what party they vote with. Does anyone know the answer to this question, and does anyone have any questions themselves about others?

I don't think Tankian and Morello would support any of the mainstream politicians, so the answer might be hidden deep somewhere in some interview with a metal webzine or something. I know Blackie Lawless and Dave Mustaine have some really weird Obama-is-Satan ideas which I don't really understand. Lawless ain't that bad because at least he's cool-headed and mostly lets the music do the talking, but Mustaine lost most of my respect when he declared that "[Obama] is trying to pass a gun ban so he's staging all of these murders.", the guy got a lot of completely justified rage from a ton of people. http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-08-17/news/33252424_1_mustaine-anti-obama-gun-ban

Dave Mustaine does have some crazy views, and Ted Nugent does have some as well. He is a gun loving right wing radical almost, and has had secret service come talk to him about some things he has said about the president. I also know that Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies is right winged because he has criticized Tom Morello and RATM for their liberal views.

I read on the netz that James Hetfield is a libertarian, dunno about the rest of Metallica. Sepultura is left-wing since they got into some conflicts with Slayer over some imagery related to satan or the nazis or something, saying they're a bad influence on kids.

Everyone is quick to dismiss the stuff that Mustaine said about the gun ban as crazy, but has anyone asked if it might be true? Just asking, is there evidence for or against? With what I've seen this president do, I wouldn't be all that shocked.

10.10.2012 - 23:03 Written by reload3591 on 09.10.2012 at 23:55 There is no evidence that Obama has done this, therefore Mustaine should not state it as if it is some fact. There really isn't any extreme evidence for either side I guess, but Obama hasn't even passed any gun bans so it doesn't really make much sense.

Sepultura only got into a scrap with Slayer because of their "Angel Of Death" song, deeming it as Nazi. But they never got upset with Slayer about Satan, that's crazy, besides....Sepultura's debut album has subject matter about Satan. Plus, Max Cavalera later said in an interview that he supports church burnings. My question though, what's this about a member of Suicidal Tendencies having right-wing views? That doesn't sound correct. Their songs promote liberal ideals. They had a song called "I Shot Reagan"
